The dresses were all worn by the Princess over a period of sixteen years and the majority of the gowns to be included in the sale were designed by the Princess’s favourite couturier – and close friend, Catherine Walker, plus one designed by famous British designer Zandra Rhodes.
The gowns are expected to reach between $60,000 and $100,000 at auction and were all also included as part of an original auction held by the Princess herself in 1997. That auction was handled by Christie’s of London, with all proceeds going to charity and took place only one month before Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris at the age of 36.
Included in this new auction is a personal note from the Princess which accompanied the original auction in 1997 and read: “The inspiration for this wonderful sale comes from just one person… our son William.”
