Duchess Catherine and Prince William celebrated nine years of marriage on April 29, and despite being in a state of lockdown in the UK, they still found a very special way to mark the occasion.

While they isolated with their three children in their country home in Norfolk, the royal couple shared an iconic throwback photo that reminded us all just how fantastic their wedding day truly was.

After receiving a flurry of well wishes from fans (and likely many family members too), the pair took to Instagram to share an image you’ll likely already be familiar with.

The picture from their 2011 wedding day is one that’s been reproduced for countless reasons on countless occasions, and for a good reason.

Featuring a beaming Catherine in her iconic Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown alongside Prince William, who looks like he’s won the jackpot, the image sums up the beautiful televised ceremony to perfection.

Prince Harry and the pair’s flower girls are seen bringing up the rear of the procession as they made their way out of Westminster Abbey.

The televised ceremony was watched by millions of people across the world, with the future King and Queen consort of England at the centre of many a discussion as the wedding of the decade took place.

Obviously it made quite an impression on their friends and family too.

Princess Eugenie commented on the pair’s throwback picture with a simple love heart eyes emoji.

The pair’s fan base were also clearly taken with the pic, sharing their own thoughts in the comments.

“That was 9 years? Wow it doesn’t feel that long!! Happy Anniversary to the Duke and Duchess!” wrote one fan.

Another added: “Woke up at 0245 just to watch [the wedding].”

The iconic location of the nuptials, Westminster Abbey, is temporarily shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

But no matter – to mark the historic wedding anniversary, the church’s official Instagram page shared some throwback snaps of its own.

Featuring several images of the Duke and Duchess’ various visits to the location over the years, the caption read: “Many congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who were married here on this day nine years ago.”

It continued: “Since then, Their Royal Highnesses have attended many services here. We wish them and their family well on their 9th wedding anniversary.”

While this year’s wedding anniversary likely looked a little different for the Duke and Duchess, we’re confident they made the best of it – and no doubt it would have been all the more special with their three children.

Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, two, have been up to all sorts while in lockdown, with the Duke and Duchess sharing little snippets of insight into their quarantine routine.

George and Charlotte have been busy homeschooling – even through the school holidays, might we add.

Speaking in a interview earlier in the month, the royal mum admitted she’d forgone telling them the small detail that the school term was technically over.

“Don’t tell the children, we’ve actually kept [home schooling] going through the holidays. I feel very mean,” Catherine laughed during the video call interview with BBC Breakfast.

Meanwhile, Prince Louis has been bringing out his creative side, with gorgeous new pictures of the young royal getting stuck into a painting session for his second birthday shared last week.
