Prince William has suggested he and Duchess Catherine are still deciding on a name for their darling third child — a boy, who entered the world on Monday, April 23rd.
The proud new dad-of-three opened up about the delay while attending an engagement alongside his younger brother Prince Harry on Thursday, saying the family were still “working on” a name.
However, he did say royal watchers and reporters would know “soon.”
The newborn prince has remained nameless for longer than his older brother and sister, with the full names of both Prince George and Princess Charlotte announced just two days after their birth.
It was previously thought that William and Kate had decided to delay the announcement because they didn’t want to overshadow Anzac Day commemorations. Now, there’s speculation the royal couple may want to wait for Prince Charles to return to London from France so they can celebrate the exciting name reveal with him.
They are also expected to first share their newborn’s name with The Queen, before announcing it in a public capacity.
Although technically they no longer need to do this, the couple are reportedly keen to stick to this tradition.
British oddsmakers currently have Arthur as the favourite for the royal tot. Albert, James, Philip, Jack, Thomas, Edward and Alexander are also popular choices.
The Duke fuelled speculation about the name during a public engagement on Wednesday.
After someone in the crowd suggested the little prince’s name could be Alexander, William replied: “Funny you should say that.”
Alexander is, of course, big brother Prince George’s middle name. The four-year-old prince’s full name is George Alexander Louis. It’s understood his name was chosen to honor Queen Elizabeth, whose middle name is Alexandra. Prince Philip’s grandfather was also named Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg.
With that in mind, the classic name could very well be a serious contender.
Later, while chatting with Sir Jerry Mateparae, New Zealand High Commissioner to the U.K., the Dean of Westminster joked that Mateparae would like to throw his own name into the ring. “Jerry, would like it to be Jerry,” he quipped.
Wills then replied: “Jerry’s a strong name.”
Ok, now you’re just playing with us…
No matter what name they end up picking one thing is for sure, they will most definitely opt for a classic choice, drenched in history that compliments George and Charlotte.
