Prince Harry has appeared for the first time since formally stepping back as a senior royal family member and moving to Los Angeles.
The 36-year-old is currently in lockdown his new LA home with wife Duchess Meghan and their 11-month-old son Archie.
And while it’s only been a month since he was last home in the UK, it seems the Duke is keeping in regular contact with his affiliates there – especially after footage from a recent video call he made came to light.
Over the Easter break, the Prince spoke to people involved with his beloved patronage based in the UK, WellChild.
Harry joined carers and families of the children associated with the charity in a Zoom call, where they discussed the challenges and complexities of caring for children with complex needs during the pandemic.
Beginning the call, which included two carers and the WellChild CEO Colin Dyer and nurse Rachel Gregory, the Prince looked happy to greet them as he said: “It’s very nice to see some familiar faces.”
The five of them discussed some of the worries and concerns they faced as access to help and care is limited due to coronavirus.
Speaking of her daughter, who suffers from Dystonia, Scoliosis and Cerebral palsy, Leanne Cooper told the Prince that it was “terrifying” to consider what might happen if she didn’t receive the help she needed.
“There is a lot of information out there, but not a lot for vulnerable families and certainly not for children with complex medical needs. If we’re in a position where carers can’t come to work because they might be symptomatic, there is no way we would survive when Sophie needs care seven nights a week, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day,” she said.
Towards the end of the 30 minute call, the Prince was elated to see some of the children the charity helps.
“I know that WellChild are doing everything they can to support you. Hopefully, through this video we can make it more clear and obvious to government and everybody else that you are in the ‘vulnerable’ bracket and WellChild needs more help.”
The video was met with excitement from Harry’s fans, who shared their thoughts in the comments.
“Well done all. Really enjoyed listening to all your experiences. Prince Harry is a good listener and seems to really care,” one wrote.
Another said: “This is great. I’m definitely going to give a donation, these guys are true warriors. It’s so nice to see such a warm comfortable conversation.”
The candid chat marks the first time we’ve seen the Prince since he moved to Los Angeles with Meghan and Archie after he stepped back from his role as a senior royal family member.
The Duke and Duchess are understood to be self-isolating in their new residence in the US city, understandably choosing not to leave their house.
Despite their confinements, they’ve still managed to show their support for those they care about.
This week, it was revealed the pair had pledged the excess funds generated from their wedding broadcast by BBC to Feeding Britain.
The whopping AUD $178,000 investment went towards helping vulnerable children in the UK receive breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We’re sure that there’s plenty more to come from their end as they continue to carve out their new chapter.
