It seems like a lifetime ago when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot and embarked on their new married life together as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on May 19, 2018.
With the wedding bouquet hand-picked by Harry himself and the hidden piece of fabric from Meghan’s first date dress woven into her wedding gown for her “something blue”, there were plenty of personal touches on their special day.
But in the years since, we’ve come to understand a few more unique details we missed between the happy tears and sausage rolls as people across the world tuned into the spectacle from their bunting-clad homes.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland put on a special exhibition in 2019 named A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, where Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s wedding outfits were put on display for all to see.
The exhibition also featured an audio guide narrated by Their Royal Highnesses themselves.
Meghan is heard saying on the recording, “A great level of detail went into the planning of our wedding day. We knew how large the scale of the event would be, so in making choices that were really personal and meaningful, it could make the whole experience feel intimate.”
While Meghan’s stunning Givenchy gown was accessorised by a veil representing the distinctive flowers of all 53 Commonwealth countries, Prince Harry surprised royal watchers by opting to wear the uniform of the Household Cavalry on his wedding day.
The groom later revealed why he choose this particular outfit.
“I chose the frock coat as a uniform, with permission from my grandmother, because I think it’s one of the smartest Household Cavalry uniforms,” Prince Harry said on the recording.
“It’s one of my favourites, and I was very fortunate to be able to wear that on the day.”

But it’s Prince Harry’s sweet gesture to his nephew and niece, who acted as pageboy and flowergirl respectively, that had us swooning.
On the audio guide, Duchess Meghan reveals that Harry had the idea to have Prince George’s initials ‘GC’ (George Cambridge) embroidered in gold thread onto his pageboy outfit, which was an exact replica of Harry’s, adding that it was “such a beautiful keepsake for them.”
Princess Charlotte also had her initials ‘CC’ added to her dress, with the wedding date (19th May) also embroidered on the soles of her wedding shoes.
“We had ten bridesmaids and pageboys under the age of seven, which everybody says is impossible to have them behaving, but they did it!” Harry added on the recording, while Meghan agreed: “It was a miracle!”
Aside from George and Charlotte, the cuties in the bridal party also comprised of Harry’s godchildren Florence van Cutsem, Zalie Warren and Jasper Dyer, Meghan’s godchildren Remi and Rylan Litt and Jessica Mulroney’s children Ivy and twins Brian and John.
