Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently in Africa for the most obsessed-over royal getaway since, you know, Prince William took Duchess Catherine to the continent to propose.
But, unfortunately for royal watchers and love enthusiasts alike, it seems we won’t be hearing of an engagement for quite some time.
According to Darren McGrady, who was personal chef to Princess Diana and watched the “boys” — Prince Harry and Prince William — grow up at Kensington Palace, the pair will announce their happy news in December.
“I really do think they would have been engaged by now,” he told HELLO! Online. “But with Princess Diana’s 20th anniversary this month in August, they can’t trump that. And then November is the Queen and Prince Philip’s platinum wedding anniversary so they can’t trump that either, whereas December they can announce the engagement and they’d be free to marry next year; I think that’s what’s going to happen.”
He added: “Meghan can join the royals at Sandringham at Christmas because she’ll be engaged and part of the fold.”
Darren, who will soon release his second cookbook The Royal Chef at Home, also explained that he sees many similarities between Harry’s late mother the ‘People’s Princess,’ as she became lovingly known, and Meghan, an actress and passionate humanitarian.
“I think Meghan is fantastic,” he said. “Everything that I’ve seen of her, I think she’s amazing and I think Harry’s picked someone like his mum. I think Kate’s beautiful, a hard worker, she looks stunning and she’s doing exactly what she needs to be doing, but I think Meghan is naturally like Diana.”
“She’s amazing with children, she has that compassion, I think she’s stunning, she’s going to be a clothes horse,” he continued. “I think Harry sees his mum in her and I love what he’s doing with Invictus Games. I can’t speak highly enough of Harry.”

The timing of the holiday — Meghan’s 36th birthday — is yet another reason royal followers are on pins and needles, tenterhooks and edges of seats. And, by all accounts, the prince has planned an unforgettable adventure for the birthday girl and his girlfriend of one year.
“Harry has been planning this holiday for a long time. He’s made the trip incredibly romantic. They’ll go on boats across the lake, walk in the bush at dawn and camp under the stars,” a source tells The Sun.
“She is super excited about their holiday together and to see Africa through Harry’s eyes. Of course, she’s visited the continent before through her charity work, but this is her first ever safari.”
“Harry’s done a lot of conservation work in Africa with endangered elephants and black rhinos and he’ll show them to the woman he wants to marry.”
Despite Harry taking his previous girlfriends on several trips to Africa, most notably Chelsy Davy, insiders tell the Daily Mail the prince has been steadfast in ensuring this getaway with Meghan will be entirely different from past visits.
“He doesn’t want to take her to the same places he took Chelsy. Harry is determined to show her something different,” an insider explained to the publication.
No matter what happens, it sounds as if Meghan is in for a holiday to remember!
