There was no sign of tears as two-year-old Prince George walked through his nursery-school gates for the first time, escorted by his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

With his backpack slung on his sturdy little shoulders and a navy blue parka to keep him warm in the chilly British countryside, Prince George officially started school.

The curly-haired youngster is attending Westacre Montessori School near the Cambridge family home in Sandringham, Anmer Hall.

Two pictures, taken by Duchess Catherine and released overnight on the Kensington Palace social media accounts, prove the little boy showed no sign of fear as he pointed out the brightly-coloured mural on the nursery wall before turning to look at his mum – who no doubt had her beloved camera constantly at the ready to capture the sweet milestone.

Prince George was captivated by his new school’s brightly-coloured mural.

A source within the school said Prince George’s brave face continued throughout his two-hour visit, revealing, “It all went well”.

It’s believed the couple chose $68 per day Westacre school, which educates 33 other pupils, because it’s not only close to their home, but also down a private lane, allowing George to begin his education away from prying eyes.

George’s little sister Princess Charlotte was left at home for his big debut.

George’s dad, Prince William, and Uncle Prince Harry both attended one of the 700 Montessori pre-schools in the UK, while Catherine attended a local pre-school in Berkshire.

The Montessori style of learning was conceptualised 100 years ago by Italian physician and teacher, Dr Maria Montessori, and allows children to develop at their own pace.

There are 210 Montessori schools in Australia.

While George began his education with very little fuss, there was no mention from Kensington Palace of whether his mum shed a tear or two!
