As the world continues to celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement, more and more details about their big day are beginning to creep into view — from the venue to the unconventional cake they’ve chosen for the reception — but we’ve barely heard a peep from the actress’s family.
Meghan’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, released a joint statement through the palace shortly after the couple’s engagement was announced, but they haven’t spoken directly about the happy news — until now.
Thomas was recently tracked down by The Mirror near Rosarito Beach, Mexico, where he’s believed to live a “reclusive” existence. He opened up briefly while picking up supplies.
He was asked if he planned on walking his daughter down the aisle, to which he simply replied: “Yes. I’d love to.”
The 73-year-old added that he was “very pleased” and “delighted” about the engagement news, but declined to say anything else on the matter.
“I’m sorry. You know I can’t talk,” he said.
In his initial joint statement with ex-wife Doria, Thomas shared a similar sentiment.
“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents,” they said in a statement issued through Clarence House. “We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, became engaged over a roast chicken dinner at their home, Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.
“It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us. Roasting a chicken… trying to roast a chicken,” Harry said of the private moment during an interview with BBC News broadcaster Mishal Husain.
“She didn’t even let me finish, she said ‘can I say yes, can I say yes?’ and then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like can I — can I give you the ring? She goes — oh yes the ring.”
“It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch her by surprise as well.”
“It was so sweet and natural and very romantic,” Meghan added.
The duo are set to marry at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018.
