Duchess Meghan has officially welcomed her second child, a baby daughter, with husband Prince Harry
The Duke and Duchess announced their new baby girl was born on Friday in a statement just released, which also revealed the name – which pays homage to both the Queen and Harry’s, mum Diana.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed on Sunday, saying: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.
“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.
“She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.
“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.
“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
The couple also took to their own website Archewell, to release a more personal statement.
“On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” they wrote.
“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
The new baby girl makes Harry and Meghan’s a family of four, alongside their first child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The two year-old will no doubt be chuffed to be a big brother – the pair commented on the feat back in February when they first announced they were expecting a second child.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson shared at the time.
Less than a month later, the pair revealed the gender of their unborn baby during Oprah Winfrey’s special interview, where they spoke at length about their time within the royal fold.
“It’s a girl!” Harry told the iconic TV host.
“Grateful, having any child, any one or a two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl… now we’ve got our family and we’ve got four of us,” the Prince gushed.
Shortly after the interview, a new photo of Harry and Meghan surfaced from their pregnancy photoshoot with Meghan’s long-time friend and famed photographer, Misan Harriman.
“What wonderful news to celebrate on International Women’s Day!” Misan shared on Instagram following the gender announcement.
Alongside the image he’d captured (via an iPad, no less), he added, “Congratulations my friends, and welcome to the #girldad club H.”
The picture included a joyful looking Meghan being held by Harry, as she herself holds little Archie.
Meghan and Harry currently reside in Santa Barbara, where they have purchased a home and settled into their new lives outside of their former roles as senior royals.
Now, they are working on their self-owned and non-tax funded organisation, Archewell.
The pair have a number of projects and initiatives beneath the umbrella, including a podcast and a Netflix deal, which will produce informative, fact-driven content on topics they are both passionate about.
Of course, it’s expected the pair will now take a break from work as they nest with their newborn daughter in their Californian home.
The pair have made it clear that their priorities lie with their two children – and their choice to step back from public royal life in order to focus on their family is a reflection of that.
Nonetheless, we sincerely hope the pair still share the odd update about their new little addition with us alongside big brother Archie.
Congratulations to them both!
