The Duchess of Sussex has officially launched her new podcast on Spotify and the guest list is full of A-list stars ready to discuss motherhood in the public eye and challenging gender stereotypes.
Meghan Markle’s new series Archetypes has released its first episode discussing the double standards women suffer from when considered ambition. The first guest was Meghan’s close friend and tennis legend, Serena Williams.
It has been revealed the guest speaker for episode two of the podcast will be singer Mariah Carey to talk about words such as ‘diva’, which has a reputation.
Beyond the second episode no explicit order has been provided, but listeners can expect actress Mindy Kaling who is close friends and works with one of the duchess’ friend and makeup artists for the pair.
Comedian Amanda Seales has also been expected despite previous statements that Meghan should have done more research prior to joining the royal family.
Award-winning journalist and author of ’90s B**: Media, Culture, and the Failed Promise of Gender Equality’ Allison Yarrow will feature to discuss how the b-word is used to describe women as ‘dumb’ to discredit her.
Also discussing the b-word will be comedian Robin Thede, who suggested the word used among women is designed to encourage. How can be ‘mortifying’ if used by a man to describe a woman.
Additionally, Nigerian-American comedian and writer Ziwe Furmudoh has joined the guest list.
Archetypes listeners can expect more of the ‘real’ version of Meghan as she exposes some very personal incidents from her life. In the first episode, she revealed her baby’s near death experience after a fire had broken out.
“People should expect the real me in this and probably the me that they’ve never gotten to know,” she said.
“Certainly not in the past few years, where everything is through the lens of the media, as opposed to: ‘Hey, it’s me’. I’m just excited to be myself and talk and be unfiltered and … Yeah, it’s fun.”
