Tattersalls spokesman, Jimmy George, said that the sale was โ€œnothing out of the ordinaryโ€, and also that it did not mean the end of the royal householdโ€™s connection with racing.

The Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale is the largest sale of its kind in the world. The auction includes around 1500 horses throughout the week.

The horses that will be sold include Love Affairs, who was trained by Clive Cox from Lambourn, in Berkshire, which was the Queenโ€™s last winner at Goodwood two days before her death.

Spokesman Jimmy George said: โ€œItโ€™s nothing out of the ordinary. Every year they would sell horsesโ€.

โ€œThe Queen had brood mares of her own, she would breed them and sell them. You canโ€™t keep them all.โ€

โ€œEvery year owners sell stock. His Majesty is just doing what owners do,โ€ he added.

It was known that The Queen had a passion for horses and riding and it is believed this started with her first riding lesson when she was young.

The Queen then went on to bread and race horses for 60 years.

Thoroughbreds owned by the late monarch have won four out of the five flat racing classics. Including the 1,000 Guineas; 2,000 Guineas; the Oaks and St Leger.

The late Queenโ€™s racing manager John Warren, from the Highclere Stud in Hampshire, previously stated that horses were a โ€œtremendous getawayโ€ from other duties and her support had been a major boost for British racing.

โ€œIโ€™m sure if The Queen had not been bred into being a monarch she would have found a vocation with horses. It was just simply in her DNA,โ€ he said.

John Warren also says that King Charles does not share the same passion for racehorses which The Queen did.

โ€œHe has always followed it, but it has been his motherโ€™s interest so it has been at armโ€™s length,โ€ he stated.
