Crowds have gathered outside Lindo Wing, and are awaiting further news of the birth.
As per tradition, the announcement is expected to be made by the royal herald, who will proclaim the news via a plaque placed on a golden easel.
The palace also confirmed that the Duchess’ husband, Prince William, was also in attendance when she was admitted into hospital, with the official account tweeting:
Kate and William’s son, Prince George, however, is not in attendance. It was reported by The Mirror that the soon-to-be big brother is waiting at Kensington Palace with grandparents, Carole and Michael Middleton. Congratulations are flowing on Twitter including a special message from British Prime Minister, David Cameron, who wished the Duke and Duchess all the best.
