Zoo officials have decided to further honour the near nine-month-old prince by renaming one of the endangered marsupials after him.
It’s still to be confirmed if Prince George will accompany his parents to the ceremony to officially name the exhibit.
When Prince George was born last July, the Australian government made a donation to the zoo for its Bilby preservation program, which is helping to restore numbers of the animal in the wild.
The Duke and Duchess were also delighted to hear that Taronga Zoo will be naming their Bilby Enclosure after Prince George.
Bilbies are the largest of the bandicoot family.
They were once widespread in grassy woodlands but predation by foxes and cats and competition from rabbits and livestock have driven them to the brink of extinction.
Taronga Zoo launched a breeding program last year to try increase bilby populations.
The royal couple is due at 2.25pm.
