Fancy (a very expensive) slice of royal wedding history?

As of next month, you can get your hands on a slice of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake, when it gets auctioned off to raise money for charity.

Of course, the wedding cake in question isn’t any old wedding cake. The fruitcake was designed by cake-maker Fiona Cairns with Kate Middleton‘s passion for flowers and their meanings in mind. It has eight-tiers and is decorated with 900 sugar-paste flowers. It is definitely a sight to behold, and was the centrepiece of their lavish reception at Buckingham Palace on 29 April 2011.

Unfortunately, though, being six-years-old, the cake isn’t actually edible.

The masterpiece itself!

According to Yahoo, the cake will go on auction on 27 September at Chiswick Auction House with the guide price starting at £800. It is expected to sell for thousands of pounds, after another slice was sold in 2014 for around £8,000 (around $1300AUD).

The winner of the slice of what is perhaps the most famous cake in British history will be gifted it in a specially commissioned cream and gilt commemorative tin with a printed card that says, ‘With the best wishes from the TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.’
