They’re finished! Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney’s friendship has reportedly been over “for some time” now

Meghan Markle’s friendship with one of her closest and oldest friends, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney, who is also the godmother of her son Archie, is reportedly over.

Jessica, 40, was widely criticised last week for her involvement in a “white privilege” racism controversy, where she threatened to sue a black Canadian influencer who called on white influencers to use their public platforms to fight racial inequality.

The furore – which you can read about in full here – was said to have put a strain on Jess’s relationship with Meghan, a biracial woman who has long fought hard for racial equality and faced constant racism-fuelled attacks in the press and on social media for years.

Now a new report claims Meghan’s friendship with Jessica was already facing its own challenges before the racism controversy.

The white privilege “row has really given Meghan the excuse she was waiting for to cut Jess off for good,” a source told Page Six.

The pair first became friends after Meghan moved to Toronto to film Suits and Jessica became her stylist, while also introducing her into her elite circle of friends.

But now Meghan feels as though her friend was “benefiting” from her connection to the royal.

Jessica and her children, daughter Ivy, seven, and twins Brian and John, nine, played a starring role in Meghan’s 2018 royal wedding – and the family’s profile has soared ever since.

Jessica had landed a contributor role on Good Morning America, become the host of wedding reality show I Do, Redo and was also given an ambassador role by dating app Bumble. She also benefitted from a growing social media presence, amassing almost 400,000 Instagram followers.

And while Jessica started out helping Meghan style herself, the Duchess has now forged her own relationships with luxury fashion houses including Givenchy and Stella McCartney.

“I don’t know what the tipping point was, but Jess has been on the outs for some time,” another source told Page Six.

“Their friendship is definitely not what it was. And really, how can you have such a close friendship when one person is basically making a career out of the friendship?”

Another sore point between the pair could be that Jessica even referenced her friendship with Meghan during her public apology over her racial comments.

“I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre. It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that. I promise to continue to learn and listen on how I can use my privilege to elevate and support black voices,” she said.
