The newly single prince joined his grandmother the Queen for the first time at the event, arriving with her in a carriage procession alongside Prince Philip and the Duke of York ahead of the five-day race program.

Looking dapper in tails and a top hat, the 29-year-old was welcomed into the parade ring by cheering fans.

Harry, who became part owner of a racehorse called Usain Colt in 2012, seems to be taking a keen interest in the sport his grandmother loves so much.

Royal watchers say Harry’s attendance at the highly anticipated annual race event shows he is slowly transitioning from his job as an Army officer towards official duties on behalf of his family.

There were plenty of other royals out and about at Ascot too. The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie arrived together in the second carriage in the procession.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent also arrived in the carriage procession. Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Phillips arrived separately, joining the official party in the royal box.

Palace officials said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will not attend the Royal Ascot events and are enjoying some downtime following a busy series of events recently.
