It seems The Block’s Sarah-Jane and Tom have moved on from their heartbreaking win on auction night as they have finished renovating not a luxury country home but rather a wholesome caravan home.
After finishing only $20,000.99 over the reserve in The Block finale, the couple was forced to sell their $80,000 Ford Ranger after admitting to Nine they had spent “more than $20,000 of our savings” to participate in the renovation series.
The couple took to Instagram to share their renovation journey of the caravan they purchased roughly five years ago.
“Welcome to our caravan! We haven’t redecorated in over 5 years but we just love it (yes everything is from Kmart) we were saving to go to Europe in 2017 when we saw this old van and thought f-ck Europe let’s have our own piece of paradise,” Sarah-Jane wrote.
Sarah-Jane revealed the couple bought the “home away from home” for $12,000 and slowly began making changes. She noted Tom was a “work horse” as he built the roof and deck within separate weekends.
“Some simple and cheap changes made quite the difference from carpet squares Tom laid to lino timber look flooring…..he also laid.
“Curtains I made some what effectively and a new tap to subway tiles in the kitchen and fake marble lino bench tops and of course in 2019 I told Tom I am no longer walking to the toilet blocks please build me a bathroom and after telling me I was dreaming…. he did it.
“We love our home away from home.”
The couple have since hit back at publications that have insisted they were ‘forced’ to live out of a caravan following their massive loss on The Block.
They reshared a screenshot of an article, and said: “Just letting you all know we are not living in a caravan, though if we were retired we totally would! Also how’s that dig at the Kmart furniture.”
The new move could be a well needed fresh start for the couple! Despite claiming they had “zero regrets” after the result on auction night, Tom and Sarah-Jane could use some positive news, especially after Sarah-Jane recently underwent a double mastectomy.
In an Instagram announcement, Sarah-Jane revealed she had waited five years for the preventative surgery after discovering she was a BRCA1 gene carrier which means she has an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
During the recovery process she said: “I’ve got some bruising, but all is going pretty well to be honest. And I do have nipples, for people asking! They were able to save my nipples; not everybody’s nipples are salvageable.”
