From Nick Cummins‘ sensational double dumping in 2018, to Matt Agnew and Chelsie McLeod‘s quick split in 2019, The Bachelor‘s track record for producing true love matches has fallen on hard times in recent years.
And while high hopes are being held for Locky Gilbert‘s season, Woman’s Day hears the Survivor star’s dual-country living arrangements caused a firestorm of drama for producers, who struggled to even find Bachelorettes willing to go on the show!
“There was a revolving door of women, it was quite a headache for casting,” dishes one production insider.
“A lot of women were disinterested – it was just hard to get them to sign up and compete for a guy who spends half his life in another country.”
Currently, the 30-year-old heads up his own business, Four Elements Adventure, which runs guided tours all over Bali and its surrounding islands, meaning the hunky TV star is based there for months at a time.
Locky’s double life is also said to have caused tensions beyond the casting process, with the girls who eventually signed up squabbling over who’d be willing to uproot their life to move to Bali.
“It was a sore spot for a lot of the girls because they were falling in love, but a future with a guy who lives in another country for half the year is a big thing to consider,” spills the source.
“The first weeks of filming were quite awkward because of all that… the girls had to really be encouraged by producers to take the process seriously and put it all on the line for him,” continues the spy.
Certainly, Bali has served as something of a bachelor paradise for Locky, who just last week was revealed to have once courted the affection of former Farmer Wants A Wife star Tahlia Rubio while living on the island.
Tahlia, 23, was sent home after a brief appearance on the rural dating show last month, revealing she had previously been exchanging “flirty messages” with Locky, and even had a “holiday fling” with him during a trip to Bali.
