Ronnie Cacares has never been shy of a hard day’s work. We’ve seen him and wife Georgia work tirelessly on two seasons of The Block, churning out incredible renovations on barely any sleep.
When he was asked to appear on Celebrity Apprentice Australia, Ronnie leapt at the opportunity, but didn’t anticipate how challenging it would be for him.
“I had so much fun on The Block, but found Celebrity Apprentice a lot harder,” Ronnie, 46, tells TV WEEK.
“For someone with ADHD, I had to be concentrating and ‘on’ all the time. It’s different, and mentally exhausting.”
Until now in his reality TV career, Ronnie has had Georgia by his side. While he would have loved to have been a pair on the show, like Will and Woody (Melbourne radio hosts Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw), the invitation wasn’t extended to his other half.
“The invitation was just to the Ron Dog – Georgia was like, ‘Oh God!'” Ronnie says with a laugh.
“We’ve always done everything together. I was a bit worried, because she’s the one who gives me a kick under the table or an elbow to the ribs when I say something I shouldn’t. She was worried I’d go rogue.”
On the up side, having only one parent on the show rather than two made it a lot easier on their family.
“I’d just come off three months of shooting The Block,” Ronnie shares. “And then I had a couple of months off before the Celebrity Apprentice offer came along. At least the kids had Mum – it wasn’t both of us [away] this time.”
Thankfully, Ronnie and Georgia’s kids – Leo, nine, and Charlotte, seven – love that their parents are on TV.
“Don’t you worry about my kids – they’re rock stars at their primary school,” their dad says with a laugh.
From the very first episode of Celebrity Apprentice, there was quite a bit of drama between the celebs.
And although they were all there to raise money for charity, Ronnie says he thinks it was easier for him and other reality stars, such as Beck Zemek – a participant in Married At First Sight in 2021 – to adapt to the show.
“I’m the same guy from The Block 2017 and 2021, because that’s all I know how to be,” he explains.
“I think some of the contestants struggled because they don’t have that experience. They were cautious about what they said.
“If I was asked a question, I’d answer straight away and be very honest, but a lot of people would pause, wondering how they’d come off.”
