Last week’s Break And Make LEGO Masters challenge saw Bilsy and his teammate Kale come out on top.
But Bilsy – real name Adam – has far more to celebrate than his achievements on the hit show. Since 2017, the radio announcer and DJ has managed to lose a whopping 65kg after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery.
“I saw a video of myself and I was just like, ‘Wow. How have I gotten here?'” Bilsy, 34, explains. “I weighed 185kg. That number was so big and so scary. I knew something had to be done.”
Two years later, Bilsy now weighs 120kg – and is determined to shed even more.
“Everything has changed,” he reveals. “There’s not one downside to it. Things like driving a car, putting your shoes on… I love it. It’s like a clean slate.”
The Gold Coast LEGO fan now shares his weight loss journey on his YouTube channel The Losers Bench.
Bilsy is keen to remove the stigma that comes with undergoing gastric sleeve surgery.
“I’ve had close friends who have lost weight come up to me and say they haven’t told their families they’ve had gastric sleeve surgery,” he explains.
“Some people say it’s cheating, but I’ve lost count of the number of people who’ve had surgery and say they’re exercising more and eating better. I want to get it [the message that gastric sleeve surgery works] out there.”
LEGO Masters airs Monday and Tuesday, 7.30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Nine Network.
