Your first look at the “new and improved” season of My Kitchen Rules is here! In 2020 the reality TV series will have a makeover, with Channel Seven unveiling My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals at their annual upfronts in October.
In a dramatic new teaser released on Tuesday, we open on Pete Evans standing ominously in a forest, holding a wooden box, as birds chirp in the background. From the trees, a slow motion Colin and Manu come face-to-face in front of Pete.
He opens the wooden box and encourages the chefs to “choose their weapons.”
“Gentlemen, let’s take this to the kitchen,” Pete says. Then, miraculously, we have left our scary forest and begin the real sneak-peek in to the new format.
The new season will see Manu’s team of Champions take on Colin’s group of Challengers, with both chefs sharing separate houses with their teams.
In the “fiercest competition yet” the contestants and their mentors will serve up incredible dishes, to be judged by the impartial Pete.
“Good luck, I think you’re going to need it mate,” Manu tells Colin as they go their separate ways.
In the teaser, which you can watch at the top of the article, Channel Seven has unveiled the five returning teams to compete on Team Manu.
MKR Season 4 winners Dan and Steph will be joined by Season 4 runners-up Elle and Jake, Mount Isa mums Jac and Shaz from Season 6 and Season 9 ‘villains’ Roula and Rachael.
2019 runner-up Romel is also on board, and appears to be competing with someone else in place of his friend Ibby.
From the brief clip, and a little sneaking around on social media, it appears to be Season 4 ‘villain’ Sophia Pou, who he’s been spending a lot of time with recently.
