As Sean walked into the venue where he would marry Jo, he saw his friends sitting with his family members. It was then he was hit by memories of one friend who wasn’t there.

Single mum, Jo, met Sean at the end of the aisle.

“We lost a mate a couple of years ago who suicided,” he explains to TV WEEK, emotion in his voice. “Obviously, when I saw all of my mates… Sorry… We were all very, very close.

“It was a really big, emotionally draining sort of day.”

The 39-year-old pub manager from SA paid tribute to his friend at the reception.

“I actually cried during my wedding speech when I mentioned him, which wasn’t ideal. He would have loved to have been there. He would have been giving me lots and lots of grief, stirring me, for putting myself out there like that, but he still would have been proud of me for doing it. It was tough not having him there.”

As for his first impressions of his bride Jo as she walked up the aisle, Sean says one thing that stood out was her bubbliness.

“She was very bubbly and had a big massive smile on her,” he remembers.

So is she too bubbly for him?

“She’s definitely full-on. Very, very loud. I wouldn’t say too bubbly, but I think even one of her friends mentioned in their speech that she could be full-on and she is full-on, but she’s lovely all the same.”

He admits that spending the night together in a hotel room afterwards was “very strange”.

“But I like to think I’m funny, and she’s definitely funny, so there was definitely some good laughs had.”
