It seemed like love at first sight when Martha and Michael met at the alter on Monday night’s episode of Married At First Sight.
Martha, a 30-year-old makeup artist, and Michael, a 27-year-old primary school teacher, seemed smitten with one another as they shared their vows in a romantic ceremony.
Upon first seeing Martha, Michael said he was blown away by how beautiful she was.
“Oh my god!” he said. “She’s beautiful. She looked absolutely amazing. She’s got this huge smile and it just drew me in. I think I’ve struck gold.”
For Martha, first impressions were a little different.
“My first impressions of Michael were, ‘Okay, I’m going to get arrested for making out with a toddler,'” Martha tells TV WEEK. “I was scared to ask him how old he was, I didn’t want to know.
“He looked like he just got back from schoolies, fresh out of high school. He was clean shaven and all shiny, like a baby. I thought he was going to say he was 22. I was mortified. But no, he wasn’t that young, he just obviously gets heaps of sleep, does yoga and drinks his green smoothies.”
The chemistry between Michael and Martha only grew stronger as the night went on, with the bride stealing her husband away for a few kisses.
“Do you like me?” Martha asked nervously at the wedding reception.
“I do, of course!” Michael said. “I was worried that I wouldn’t feel anything when you smiled and I… feel good when you smile. There could be a little bit of feelings there! It makes me excited to see what the future holds.”
Later on, things felt comfortable between the newlyweds in their honeymoon suite.
“From the second we got back [to the hotel] it felt like we’d known each other for ages,” the blushing bride tells TV WEEK.
“It was so comfortable and it just flowed. It was so good. I was shocked at how well it went. Imagine going home with a stranger you’ve just met and you have to have a shower, take your makeup off.. what do you even sleep in?!”
Martha reveals she chose to keep things modest on the wedding night, despite the instant attraction.
“I wore a little white cotton singlet dress, just something plain,” she says.
“I definitely didn’t want to do something sexy because I’d feel like the biggest d—head on the face of the earth if I did that. Really, I don’t know this guy. If it was my real husband, I’d pull out the crotchless undies. But for a stranger… absolutely not.”
We’re glad things are off to a… comfortable… start for Martha and Michael!
