There’s nothing like young love to warm our cynical hearts, and while it seems Married At First Sight Australia Ollie and Tahnee could go the distance, the pair have since split.
Tahnee took to Instagram on December 13, 2023 to share a statement.
“Just as I share the highlights of my life on here, it’s only fair for me to share when things aren’t always fun,” Tahnee began.
“Sadly, Ollie and I have decided to part ways. Our lives are taking us in different directions and we feel at this stage it’s the best decision for us.
“From meeting as strangers who got ‘married’, to genuinely finding love, I’m pretty proud of the time we’ve shared. Our journey together has been such a roller coaster but sometimes relationships just don’t work out – no matter how much you want them to – and that’s okay.”
Meanwhile, Ollie shared a separate announcement with a cute flashback photo of the pair and a video filmed hours before.
“Hello, Tahnee and I have split up. It’s sad, but it’s okay,” he began. “What a ride! A journey filled with love, laughter, challenges, and in the last month, reflection. I think we tried really hard to make it work.
“There is such a separation from Skye Suites to real life that I think is really hard to account for and (albeit not without trying) was an adjustment that we struggled to make.
“I kinda have this pipe dream of us being like Jerry and Elaine from Seinfeld post-breakup, a very hard thing to do obviously, but the sentiment at its core is that I plan to try to be someone who champions Tahnee and can be there for her as a friend.
“In a post like this, the words “friend” and “breakup” are usually synonymous but with little truth behind them. However, if friendship was the foundation of us before love, I like to think it might be something we can share in the aftermath.
“That video is from last night, so I think we’re on the right track. ❤️
A few days after the announcement, Ollie revealed on his podcast Tosser, that they were “really different.”
“I think Tahnee has some great qualities and I have so much respect for her and I still have love for Tahnee but at our core, we are just really, really different,” he said.
“Different not just in likes and hobbies, it’s not just in values, it’s not just in how we navigate our issues, but our wants, our beliefs.”
Tahnee confirmed on her podcast Chuffed that the pair are still living together as they navigate their split.
As fans recover from the heartbreaking news, we reflect on their love story from their MAFS wedding ceremony to life outside of the experiment.
From the very moment these two locked eyes on each other during the wedding ceremony, it was clear to see the relationship experts had paired a brilliant match. No drama and no skeletons in the closet, just easy and hopeful love.
We have watched these two bond over their own clumsiness (if you’ve watched MAFS 2023, you’ll understand), we loved that they stayed away from drama, but mostly we loved Ollie’s impressions.
Not long after the MAFS experiment ended, the pair decided long distance just was not for them and Ollie packed his bags for Bondi Beach.
They even quickly said the three magic words, ‘I love you’.
“We were in bed together and I think I said, ‘Do you love me?’ and she said, ‘Yeah I do’,” Ollie revealed to 9Now.
“I said, ‘Well I love you, too,’ and she said ‘I love you.’ Then, I ran around the house. I was giddy!”
However, Tahnee’s tiny studio apartment was definitely too small for the pair. After moving to Surry Hills, the pair haven’t had much luck as they now feel unsafe in the neighbourhood.
During an Instagram Live where co-star Melissa complimented the young couples home, Ollie said: “I tell you who else loves our apartment…” when Tahnee finished: “The crackheads down the road.”
“The unsavoury folk love our f——g townhouse as well and they’re doing all sorts…”
The pair told Yahoo Lifestyle that they’ve had numerous incidents with local drug and alcohol abusers. Tahnee and Ollie even came home one day to find people “partying in their garage” after they had forced “their way inside.”
