Every year on Married At First Sight, it’s inevitable that not all the couples will live happily ever after following their first meeting at the alter.
While some couples clearly aren’t working, they still decide to stay in the experiment to give their relationship a go, while others unanimously opt to call it quits and hopefully never see each other again.
And as we know from seasons past, if only one person writes leave at the often-explosive commitment ceremony, and their spouse says stay, they both must remain in the experiment for another week.
So, to keep track of who exactly said their final goodbyes, we’ve rounded up all the couples who have left season nine so far.
Holly Greenstein and Andrew Davis
In a surprise to literally no one, Holly and Andrew became the first couple to leave the experiment.
The couple’s wedding day went relatively smoothly, but their relationship unravelled in the second week of the experiment following an explosive fight over sexual intimacy.
At the second dinner party, their relationship came under scrutiny from the other contestants before Andrew stormed out and effectively ended his time on the experiment.
Andrew then failed to turn up to the third commitment ceremony, effectively ending his time on the show. However, Holly showed up and shared an emotional letter with the experts and the rest of the group.
“Not long ago we were all single people in a room going to extreme lengths to find love. I worked hard to show you all who I was, to show you respect and courtesy,” she began.
“I wanted to be your friend and support you through this, but you all very quickly forgot what it was like walking in alone and single into a room full of couples not feeling like enough.
“I had been alone this entire journey and I came into the room hoping for support I hope I earned and I walked in the villain.”
Holly then revealed her very obvious decision to leave the experiment, making her and Andrew the first couple to call it quits this season.
Anthony Cincotta and Selin Mengu
Fans couldn’t have been less shocked that Selin and Anthony both chose to leave the experiment at the third commitment ceremony.
Their wedding day may have been something out of a romantic fairytale, but the couple’s relationship quickly began to crumble on their honeymoon, and it never recovered.
Anthony claimed that Selin is a “completely different” person when the cameras aren’t rolling, adding that she mockingly called him a “princess”.
At the first diner party of the season, their relationship continued to unravel after Selin revealed to her fellow wives that Anthony had cut their honeymoon short and flew back to Sydney a day early, prompting Tamara and Domenica to have a go at him.
Selin and Anthony then barely held on by a thread for the next two weeks of the experiment, spending hardly any time with each other.
Then at the third dinner party, an argument erupted when a fed-up Anthony claimed he couldn’t have done more to try and rectify their relationship.
Anthony said he walked to McDonald’s in the rain to buy Selin food, but the mother-of-one then claimed he had invoiced her for the costs.
A heated argument then played out in front of their shocked fellow couples, with Anthony claiming Selin hadn’t tried to make a connection form.
The couple finally agreed on something on Sunday night when they both decided to leave the experiment, with Selin defiantly writing “I’m done!” on her stay or leave card.
“I need that spark in my life, I need that flare, I need that excitement. I need to be able to connect with somebody and I’m just not feeling that,” Anthony said.
Jessica Seracino Daniel Holmes
To say it was a rocky romance for Jessica and Daniel would be a vast understatement, as the pair couldn’t stop clashing throughout their short time in the experiment.
After a tough week for the couple, Jessica chose to leave at the Commitment Ceremony, but Daniel wanted to give their marriage one more go and wrote ‘stay’.
But, their time in the experiment came to an abrupt end when Jess decided to walk out on Daniel and the whole show the day after.
Dion Giannarelli and Carolina Santos
While viewers could see this coming from a mile away, Dion was blindsided and left to face the Commitment Ceremony alone after Carolina was nowhere to be seen.
Facing the experts without his wife, Dion was up first on the couch and wrote “leave”, but also wished Carolina all the best and hopes she will find love.
Although, to his and everyone else’s surprise, Carolina showed up later in the night with co-star Daniel, in an attempt to re-enter the experiment as a new couple.
They were denied by the experts after Carolina’s treatment of Dion during their time together, and she and Daniel also left the experiment for good.
Kate Laidlaw and Matt Ridley
While Matt tried his hardest to impress Kate over the course of their short time together in the experiment, they ended up parting ways on the couch.
Kate was unable to get over Matt’s drunken behaviour, despite his apology, and Matt himself knew that he had removed any glimmer of hope to make their relationship work.
Both landing on the same page in terms of their decision, Kate and Matt wrote “leave” at the Commitment Ceremony.
Samantha Moitzi and Al Perkins
It was the very last Commitment Ceremony of the season, and it was Samantha and Al who said their goodbyes to the experiment and to each other.
After trying to leave the previous week, Sam was initially against staying any longer to establish a friendship with Al, but it ended up working out for the pair.
While Al had hoped for a second chance at love with Sam, he knew their time was up and was able to leave on good terms with his bride.
