It’s the Married At First Sight showdown we’ve all been waiting for. With all of the former brides and grooms coming back for boys’ and girls’ night, drama is always dished out in spades.
While Holly’s return is enough to create entertaining television, the boys’ night is where the real spectacle is – especially when Dion and Daniel go head-to-head.
For Dion, leaving MAFS alone wasn’t the plan. But when his bride, Carolina, spectacularly revealed that she’d found a connection with Daniel, asking the experts to consider letting the new couple re-join the experiment, Dion was left without a wife and was forced to leave along with Daniel and Carolina.
“I was sad to leave the experiment early, but it is what it is,” Dion, 33, tells TV WEEK. “It was my time to move on and get back to the support I had from my friends, family and the people who appreciate me for who I am.”
On the show, the couples banded around Dion, admonishing Carolina and Daniel for their behaviour and even applauding when they were sent home. As a result, Daniel was apprehensive about his return.
“I was feeling a little on edge, and knew Dion and the other guys were going to fire shots,” Daniel, 30, shares.
“I wasn’t nervous to hear what Dion had to say, but I figured he’d have a big speech prepared. Flogging a dead horse at this point.”
After everything he’d been through, it was important to Dion to speak up.
“I told Daniel how I was feeling, what I thought of the way they both handled the situation and that I don’t respect either of them for their actions,” Dion shares.
Daniel was hoping he’d be ready to put their past behind them. “I wanted to tell Dion that Carolina and I were sorry his feelings got hurt, but we’d found something real. It was time to let it go.”
While Daniel and Carolina have been copping heat from the public since they left the experiment, the couple have only gone from strength to strength, and even live together.
“Carolina and I are in love,” Daniel says. “We’ve had our own struggles, coming together the way in which we did and the pressure it’s brought, but that’s only made us stronger as a couple.”
Watching the show back, Dion has learnt a lot more about the situation.
“Seeing it all play out gives me a bit of relief that it actually wasn’t what I was doing,” Dion says. “I was doing everything I possibly could, but she was off doing her own thing with someone else.
“Let’s put it this way, if I saw them on the street I would politely nod and keep walking.”
