It was a far cry from the wedding Bryce Ruthven anticipated.
Six months before he volunteered to put a ring on a stranger’s finger on Married At First Sight, the radio announcer was engaged to another woman he’d been dating for more than five years.

“In the beginning, things were great,” Bryce, 31, tells TV WEEK.
“Towards the end of it, I was keen on locking in a wedding date, talking about having kids, but we just weren’t on the same page.”
Realising he wasn’t happy with the direction his life was heading, Bryce took the painful step of breaking off his engagement.
And, after being single for a while, he decided to enlist the MAFS relationship experts to find the perfect woman.
“I felt my judgement was maybe off a little, so I thought why not put the Love Gods – the three experts – to work,” he jokes.
But as he sat in the limo, minutes before meeting his new wife for the first time at the altar, Bryce couldn’t help but reflect on the wedding he thought he’d be having.
“I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me thinking, ‘Oh, jeez – this could have been happening with someone else’,” he says.
“It actually reassured me that I was very comfortable with the decision I made six months ago [to call off his engagement] and was doing the right thing marrying a complete stranger.”
Married At First Sight airs Monday to Wednesday, 7:30pm, and Sunday, 7pm on the Nine Network
