Former Married At First Sight star Daniel Holmes has candidly admitted he was addicted to steroids for eight years.
The personal trainer, who is still happily dating co-star Carolina Santos, took to Instagram on Monday night to reveal he “abused” steroids from the age of 23 until he signed up to MAFS last year.
“It was an addiction that I didn’t want to admit but the reality is I never really came off them in that 7-8 year window,” he shared.
The 30-year-old said he’s now been off steroids for eight months, with the help and support of girlfriend Carolina.
“I can look back and realise how much it affected my life. There’s side effects that I’m still dealing with after the years of f–king my hormones,” he said.
“Anyone that knows me well knows I’m very obsessive with the things I choose to focus on. I have this obsession with being the best I can possibly be.”
Daniel said he used performance enhancing drugs during his time as a professional bodybuilder.
“I’ve done boxing and Muay Thai here and there but always wanted to take boxing more seriously, unfortunately I was a big juice head so the two don’t really mix lol but I’m in a position now where I can really focus on it. My body feels better natural and I’m very motivated,” he continued.
The former reality star said he’s working towards focusing his “competitive and obsessive behaviour in the right direction”.
In the comments of his candid post, Daniel received an outpour of support from Carolina and his fellow co-stars.
“Good work big fella keep working and keep going 💪” Jackson Lonie wrote, while Carolina commented: “I’m so proud of you ❤️❤️❤️ Keep killing it 👊🏻”
Much to viewers’ surprise, Daniel and Carolina are one of the only MAFS season nine couples that are still together.
The pair have since moved in with each other, and remain good friends with fellow “villain” Olivia Frazer and Jackson Lonie.
