Since Love Island winners Grant Crapp and Tayla Damir called it quits just 12 days after taking out the competition as boyfriend and girlfriend, it’s been drama after drama.
On July 19, Tayla announced the relationship was over, claiming the allegations that Grant had a secret girlfriend back home called Lucy Cartwright were true.
And while Grant begged for Tayla, 21, to give him a second chance, just two weeks later, he is back at his family home in Canberra, with Lucy is by his side.
Together Grant and Lucy tell NW their side of the story…
Grant revealed to NW he and Lucy reunited after he called her to make sure she was OK.
“I spoke to Lucy over the weekend to see how she was going and we’re just taking each day as it comes,” she said.
He adds: “We had a really good friendship before Love Island, and I hope we can rekindle what we had before.”
Grant was accused of having a ‘secret girlfriend’ back at home while he was in Spain looking for love on Love Island. While the pair had a strong connection before Grant left for the show, they deny it was anything serious.
“Me and Grant knew each other for a long time before Love Island,” explains Lucy.
“We were really good friends and had a really close friendship. But it was never anything serious.”

As Grant fell in love with Tayla on national TV, Lucy watched from home.
“Going into it, I didn’t really think I had feelings for Grant,” says Lucy.
“But I don’t think it was until he was on there and I was watching it that I sort of went, ‘Oh, I did have feelings that were more than just a friendship’,” she adds.
Grant and his now ex-girlfriend Tayla were voted the winners of Love Island by the Australian public. The pair split the winnings and announced their plans to move to Sydney. Now that he has ended things with his Love Island girlfriend, Grant says he finally can see what he had with Lucy all along.
“Obviously I was going into the Villa with an open heart and looking for love. But then, I’ve come out, me and Tayla are finished and I’m back with Lucy. It does make you think about what you valued… the friendship [I had] before I went in there,” he says.

It was reported that Tayla, desperate for confirmation that Grant and Lucy were just in fact ‘friends’, tried to phone Lucy, but Grant says Lucy didn’t feel comfortable talking.
Unable to hear Lucy’s side, Tayla then searched the internet and social media and in her words, “finally got the answer that was the truth: he was on there to promote himself and he did have a girlfriend who was running his business while he was inside the Villa”.
Grant says, “I told Tayla the truth about a thousand times! She didn’t listen to anything I’d say, she’d just say, “You’re lying, you’re lying, you’re lying.” I don’t know… When I think about it, with Tayla, I’m not sure if she really had genuine feelings towards me towards the end…”
And as for that promise ring Grant romantically presented to Tayla while in love and on the dating show?
Grant says, “That’s probably at the bottom of the Sydney Harbour by now.”
