In 2019, the definition of a “celebrity” could take on a whole new meaning – that’s if fans of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! should be listened to.
With the popular Aussie reality show making its fifth season debut on Sunday night, avid viewers were geared up for a highly anticipated star-studded line-up.
But it seemed that this year’s batch of celebs didn’t quite make the impression desired, with many fans left scratching their heads and wondering where all the big names were.

While controversial politician Jacqui Lambie, former Home And Away actor and X Factor host Luke Jacobz and Love Island’s Justin Lacko aren’t unfamiliar to many Australians, it seemed the show was still lacking in A-list star power.
Even Lacko himself struggled to recognise some of his fellow contestants, going so far as to incorrectly call MasterChef star Justine Schofield “Simone”. Oh dear…
On its official Twitter account, the show wasn’t afraid to poke fun of the less-than-glamorous lineup, writing: “Apologies to those expecting Lindsay Lohan, John Cena, and the hot guy from Aquaman. They said no… Tony Abbott and Schapelle Corby? Didn’t even ask em!”

And the viewers reactions on social media only reiterated the outlook further.
One person wrote on Twitter: “I’m sorry but if ‘celebrities’ don’t know other celebrities then none of them are celebrities.”
Meanwhile, another wrote: “#ImACelebrityAU should actually been called ‘I was on TV once, get me out of here.'”
Despite the negative comments, some fans appreciated Ten’s self-deprecating humour.
“There is so much sass coming from the @ImACelebrityAU account. I am loving it. Every company should employ this method when dealing with complaints #ImACelebrityAU.”
And it’s not all doom and gloom – two new celebs are set to be dumped in the jungle tonight: Gogglebox stars Angie and Yvie.
“I can’t wait to see the Goggleboxers watching Angie & Yvie going into the jungle – Gogglebox-ception! #ImACelebrityAU,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another wrote: “Literally watching I’m A Celeb purely for Angie and Yvie from Gogglebox because I dont care about the other “celebrities”.”
Furthermore, if past seasons are anything to go by – fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
Last year, the season was a few episodes deep before some international celebrities were dropped into the mix – Geordie Shore‘s Vicky Pattison Royal Butler Paul Burrell.
The move boosted ratings, and provided plenty of drama for the remainder of the show.
Fingers crossed something similar happens for the fifth season (looking at you, Samuel Johnson and Pamela Anderson) – going by the first impressions, we’ll be needing it!
