When Angie Kent and Yvie Jones recently announced they were leaving Gogglebox Australia, fans were shocked.
Initially, the best friends declared they’d quit the show because Angie was no longer living in Sydney.
But in an exclusive interview with TV WEEK, the pair reveal that their contract with Foxtel, the makers of Gogglebox Australia, prevented them from doing other media work and left them with no option but to leave.
“We had no choice – we had to,” Angie, 28, says. “We couldn’t do other things, and after four years it was time to see what else was out there.”
But farewelling the TV WEEK Logie Award-winning reality show was hard.
“We’d thought about leaving previously for the same reason, but couldn’t bring ourselves to,” Yvie, 46, adds. “It [Gogglebox Australia] was like a huge security blanket for us – leaving was a huge gamble, but we just weren’t earning any money.”
Angie adds, “Gogglebox has such a cult following, so people feel like they’re our friends and our family. To them, it was like, ‘Oh, my God – you’re leaving me!’
“But all we want to say is: don’t worry, because you’re going to see a lot more of us!” Yvie says.

After news broke that Angie and Yvie were leaving Gogglebox, it took only a week for another TV show to snap them up.
Now, it’s goodbye couch and hello creepy-crawlies as the pair head into the wilds of South Africa to be contestants on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.
“We told Foxtel we were leaving [Gogglebox] in October and flew to Bali [on holiday] a week later,” Yvie says. “On the second day there, we got the phone call from [Network] 10. We were so excited!
“It’s going to look like we left Gogglebox to go into the jungle, but it’s important our fans know we left before we got this opportunity.”
