It’s been a year of change and transformation for former Home And Away darling Bec Hewitt, who reignited her TV career by signing up to star on new drama Time & Place, much to the delight of her fans who have missed the TV WEEK Logie Award winner on their small screen.
Now Woman’s Day hears it won’t be long before the mother-of-three, who shares Mia, 14, Cruz, 11, and Ava, 10, with her husband Lleyton Hewitt, makes her big return to prime time!
According to one well-placed TV insider, she’s being eyed off for a spot on Ten’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – and hunky jungle favourite Dr Chris Brown is rumoured to be the one tasked with convincing her to get on board!
“It’s no secret that producers have been angling to get Bec and Lleyton on the show for years – their combined star power would be an absolute ratings smash hit,” tells a TV insider.
According to our source, producers have dispatched none other than the show’s co-host Chris, 42, to do their bidding and convince Bec – and hopefully Lleyton, 39, too – to finally take the plunge.
Certainly, Bec is no stranger to the long list of celebrity names who have been rumoured to be heading into the South African jungle before, but industry bigwigs have never been able to convince the one-time pop singer and soap star to leave her lush life in Melbourne to do the show.
“It’s the type of program Bec would definitely enjoy,” shares a close insider.
“She’s someone who loves to have fun, doesn’t take herself too seriously and would jump at the chance to make new friends.”
“The only thing that’s really ever stopped her from signing on is the fact she would have to leave her three kids to travel halfway across the world over the summer holiday.”
And while Bec has had her reservations in the past about leaving her youngsters for an overseas solo trip, the show’s 2021 season is full of big changes!
Due to the pandemic-induced travel restrictions, for the first time since its 2015 launch, the series will be filmed in Murwillumbah, NSW, close to celebrity hotspot Byron Bay.
“The fact they’re filming in Australia means it will be so much easier for Bec to commit,” shares a source, who says the star wouldn’t hesitate to leave her kids in Toorak with their dad, or her parents, if she was just a state away.”
A network insider insists Bec “is on top” when it comes to the celebrity wishlist.
“She’s notoriously quiet, rarely does press and yet remains one of the country’s most adored TV talents,” says the source.
“Ten would jump at the chance to have her on the show. She knows if she ever wants the gig all she has to do is ask… because it’s no secret they’ve already begged!”
When approached for comment, a Ten spokesperson confirmed its interest for Bec, telling Woman’s Day, “What an ace idea! With all seats taken in our celebrity jungle, we would love to confirm it will be Bec’s home away from home… but you know we won’t!”
If Bec has signed on for the 2021 instalment, she could be joining a line-up of controversial stars, with network insiders previously revealing Ten is pushing for “bolder” and more “controversial” figures in a bid to steal the ratings.
Names currently in the mix include Abbie Chatfield, Tania Zaetta, Ian Thorpe, Lorrae Desmond, Israel Folau, George Calombaris, Tammy Hembrow and Pete Evans.
