Just a week after Bernard Tomic’s shock departure, boxing great Anthony Mundine has followed suit and sensationally quit I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Channel 10 confirmed the news on Thursday morning via social media.
“The man is out! Anthony Mundine dramatically says the words and walks out of the jungle. 7:30pm on Ten,” the network said on their Facebook page alongside a photo with the words “Mundine walks!”
They also shared a video of the sports star exclaiming, “I’m The Man, get me out of here”, as he left camp.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the boxing great called it quits after an intense challenge in the viper room against his nemesis, Danny Green, and snakes.
“Viper Room seemed to push both Danny Green and Anthony Mundine to their limits,” the show’s co-host Dr. Chris Brown explained to News Corp.
“The expectation was that that trial would bring them closer together but it seems it may have been the straw that broke the man’s back.”
The former Bondi Vet was still coming to term’s with the series’ second loss in as many weeks.
“He’s been our camp leader and been thrown into all of our tucker trials and seemingly handling it very well but the man is the man and the man does things his own way,” Dr. Chris said explained.
“I guess this shows you that every single day is as dramatic as the last. This is our fourth year of the show and we’ve never had anyone walk out before.”
“We’ve had many celebrities who are not elite sportsmen last the full six weeks.”
Anthony himself took to Facebook this morning to announce he was indeed done with the reality show.
“Hey everyone! No doubt you have seen the headlines by now that I have left the jungle. It was an incredible experience but I miss my family and feel like I have accomplished everything I wanted to do,” he explained.
“I did all but one of the trials (which I couldn’t compete in because of my foot) and met some great people and went out with a bang on an epic trial that you will see tonight,” he added alongside two snake emojis.
“Thanks for the supporting me on the show & make sure you watch me go out with a bang !! See you all back home #imacelebrityau #itsallgravybaby.”
Anthony, 42, lasted less than two weeks in the jungle and his appearance on the show was considered a huge coup for Channel 10.
He had fast become one of the most polarising stars, drawing criticism for his sexist views on the role of women.
But the enigma of Anthony had viewers hooked, with many appreciating Anthony showing a more vulnerable side and at one point even breaking down in tears when he opened up about saving a man with depression.
His exit will air on Channel 10 tonight.
