There wasn’t a dry eye in the house tonight when House Rules’ Shayn and Carly opened up about the heartbreaking back story behind their relationship.
Struggling to hold back tears, Carly, 31, revealed Shayn, 33, was her ex-partner’s best friend. Tragically, he died in an accident.
“It was pretty intense,” Carly says. “Shayn was my rock when we lost him. Life can be short so you need to take those risks and really enjoy life and get the most out of it.”
“It’s been eight years now and we’ve crammed a lot into that eight year period,” Shayn adds.
Married for six years, Shayn and Carly now live in the Sunshine Coast with their two daughters, Harper, five, and Imogen, three.
They hope House Rules will give them the chance to make their family home a “forever home.”
“We bought this house because we fell in love with the location,” Carly explains.
“The schools, the beach; it’s the perfect family home and we want the girls to grow up here. I would love for this house to be our forever home.”
What’s certain is that the other teams will have their work cut out.
The pair say their three-bedroom, double brick house is more like a prison than a home.
“It’s a small rectangular box with bars on the windows, security screens all over the place and not much light,” Shayn explains.
“The reason we entered the competition is basically to upgrade our home for the kids. Our family is fast outgrowing the house.”
House Rules airs Monday to Wednesday, 7:30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Channel Seven.
