Losing out to Katie and Alex after the early room reveal on House Rules last week was a huge blow for Pete and Courtney.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow,” a devastated Pete said on the show. “You put in all that effort, and you don’t get anything.”
But the dance teachers’ week will go from bad to worse when they’re forced to confront producers about a rule they deem “unfair”.
“It was challenging conversation to have,” Pete tells TV WEEK. “It didn’t make sense to us and it’s something we really struggled with.”
“We were asked how we felt, so we told them,” Courtney adds, revealing that that’s when things “got heated”.
“We said it seemed a bit unfair. We were confused as to why they were asking us how we felt, because it was almost like we were being told we were wrong.”
Pete and Courtney say they struggled to come to terms with the attempts to stir up drama on the hit show.
“They [the producers] were trying to make us fight from the beginning, but we all really like each other,” Pete explains.
“House Rules is a renovation show, first and foremost,” Courtney says. “But it’s also a reality show. Maybe people aren’t used to us all getting along and think it’s weird!”
The pair insists they’d never step over another team to get further in the competition.
“We’d never bring down another team to bring ourselves up,” Pete says. “As teachers, it’s just not a quality we like.”
Courtney adds, “It goes against everything we are. We would never jeopardise someone’s room.”
House Rules airs Monday to Wednesday, 7.30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Channel Seven.
