Married couple Katie and Alex have already cemented themselves as the ones to beat in House Rules.
In Sunday night’s episode, the pair received high-praise from the judges, scoring 25 out of 30.
While judge Jamie Durie called them “the ones to watch,” Wendy Moore couldn’t stop declaring her love for everything in their zone.
But their early success isn’t that surprising, given Alex’s confession that he’ll do whatever it takes to make his and Katie’s dreams of extending their family a reality.
“I probably don’t have an ‘off’ switch,” the police officer, 32, tells TV WEEK.
“If there’s something that needs to be done, it will get done. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and if I die trying, that’s what’s going to happen.”
While Katie and Alex love their cottage in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, they’re short on space.
“It’s small and falling down,” Alex says of their little home, adding the kitchen isn’t functional and their bedroom is suffering from water damage.
“When it gets cold outside, the condensation comes through the ceiling and literally drops cold water on your face at 3 or 4am,” Katie says. “We’ve always seen the potential in this place and hope that the other contestants will see that too.”
House Rules will give them the chance to accommodate more children – and, hopefully, give their one-year-old daughter Hallie a sibling.
“I want four kids, but I’m trying to convince Alex,” Katie, 29, reveals. “I’m ready to have another one at any time.”
Alex replies with a laugh, “I do need someone to take care of me when I’m old!”
House Rules airs Monday to Wednesday, 7.30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, Channel Seven.
