Cody is hoping he’s not going to be “public enemy number one” after this week’s episodes of Farmer Wants A Wife go to air. But he wants to be honest about his feelings for farmer Paige.

“I didn’t have the initial spark you would really, really hope for,” he admits to TV WEEK. “But I felt a connection to her personality and her warmth.”

The 27-year-old underground driller joined the show late, as one of Samantha Armytage’s two picks, after being approached while on a night out in the NSW town of Orange.

As Paige hadn’t hit it off with her first lot of potential husbands, she was thrilled by the arrival of Cody and Ayden, particularly Cody, admitting to her sister that she wanted to kiss him.

Cody says when he first met Paige he didn’t feel the “spark” he’s felt in previous relationships, “like you need to be around them and you’re really drawn to them”.

But he wasn’t put off, thinking that more of a slow burn might be a good thing.

In this week’s episodes, Cody tries to kiss Paige, “where I was somewhat brushed”, before finally having a proper kiss.

“Because she demands a lot of respect and is quite dominant, it was hard to know whether to really go for it or not,” he adds.

However, the kiss doesn’t have the effect Cody has been hoping for. Afterwards, Paige wants to know how he’s feeling, and he tells her.

Drama blows up as a result when the farmers and their potential spouses have dinner in the city and Paige starts talking to other people about him.

First, farmer Will takes Cody aside for a talk, then Paige does the same. Cody says he felt “bombarded” by Will and “pretty well blasted” by Paige.

“It was really out of left field,” he says. “All I could put it down to was that she’d been so hurt in the build-up to this that she decided to take it all out on me.”

Now, Cody hopes he won’t come out of the show as “public enemy number one”.

“Even if I get hammered on social media, it is what it is,” he declares. “I’ve got pretty thick skin.”
