Imogen Anthony and her radio shock jock boyfriend Kyle Sandilands were the quirky ‘it couple’ of the Australian entertainment industry up until their shock split in 2020.
Now, Imogen has candidly revealed on national television why her and Kyle broke up following their eight-year romance.
Speaking to fellow housemate Jessika Power on Big Brother VIP last night, Imogen admitted she “wanted things Kyle couldn’t give me”.
“He was just working so much. It was just work, work, work, work, work. I want to have kids and we just kind of grew apart,” she told Jessika when asked why their relationship ended.
“Money and fame isn’t the be all and end all of life. It’s nice for a little while but I want to have children that can run around with their father and not be put behind work and I want someone’s time,” she later told Big Brother in an emotional diary room chat.
“All of a sudden things were just too undeniable… I’m not going to let someone else write my narrative for me.”
Kyle previously revealed on Mamamia’s No Filter podcast that the 19-year age gap between him and Imogen led to the demise of their relationship.
“It’s not as if we couldn’t get on. It’s just I was going into my twilight years, and she was just becoming a woman,” he said.
“It was just one of those things that it was fun while it lasted and it was great, we enjoyed a lot of things about each other, but some of these things they come to an end sometimes.”
Despite maintaining that they’re on good terms, Imogen made claims about experiencing a toxic relationship on her Instagram.
“I know about gaslighting,” she wrote.
“I’ve also never been the greatest judge when it comes to the quality of a man, have I? So we will let that one go.
“After being with old mate for the last 10 years, you know you kind of learn things, and no one knew more about behind the scenes than Kyle did, and he told me everything.”
Since July, the 30-year-old has been linked to a highly tattooed mystery man she has teased on her Instagram, but she has refused to reveal his identity.
Meanwhile, Kyle has moved on with Tegan Kynaston, his personal assistant. The radio veteran told Daily Mail in July that he and the 35-year-old have discussed marriage and starting a family.
“Of course we’ve discussed it, 100 per cent. We haven’t set any dates or anything – we haven’t even got engaged yet, so I’ve got to do one thing at a time. We’re in a good place, and that’s a good thing,” he said.
“When you find the right person, things just feel right and it feels very natural to just go down that road. I’ve always thought that I’m definitely going to have kids at some stage.
