If you thought Paradise was a Fijian oasis of blue waters and white sands where golden-skinned (Jarrod Woodgate aside) beauties fell in love over bottomless mango daiquiris, think again. Paradise wasn’t as easy-breezy (drama excused) as it appeared. It’s been revealed strict drinking and sex rules were placed on contestants staying at the Bachelor In Paradise Fijian resort.
Producers on the Chanel 10 dating show implemented drinking rules to ensure contestants didn’t get too tipsy during filming, reports The Daily Telegraph.
It’s believed producers on the Fiji set allowed the former Bachelor and Bachelorette stars just two drinks per hour, only after midday and only if they’d eaten breakfast. Single shots were not allowed and had to be served with a mixer.
A Warner Bros spokesman said duty of care for the show’s participants was taken very seriously with support provided during the entire experience. The spokesman confirmed a psychologist was on hand 24 hours a day should the participants needed to speak to someone.
Despite Jarrod Woodgate’s constant sunburn, the spokesman said and supplies such as sunscreen and insect repellent were always on hand.
“Sunscreen and insect repellent was available to contestants at all times, as were hydra-lines, non-alcoholic drinks, food 24 hours a day, along with scheduled meal breaks.”
While the network is yet to confirm any polices around sexual relations between the contestants, some star’s have hinted at what happened in Paradise when the sun went down and the cameras turned off.
Appearing on The Project after she didn’t receive a rose from Eden Schwencke, Nina Rolleston that contestants had ‘sleepovers’ at night.
“Look, we’re all grown-ups and we’re all adults and we, um, do have sleepovers,” she admitted, adding that there were no restrictions on where they spend the night.
“We’re allowed to sleep anywhere that we like.”
“They are single beds, and there’s two people to a room, so if you do have sleepovers, there’s also a third person in the room,” Nina added.
However, according to Laurina Fleure, producers placed strict guidelines on sexual activity between castmates after a sexual misconduct scandal on the US version of the show.
“If anybody was caught frolicking intimately then production had the right to burst in the door and say, ‘Are you consenting?’,” she told Hit105’s Stav, Abby and Mat.
