They might be considered one of the nation’s most adored A-list couples but when it comes to preparing for the arrival of their first child, fitness instructor Lauren Hannaford and her husband, Red Wiggle Simon Pryce, are as low-key and relaxed as it comes.
In fact, the parents to-be admit they haven’t even touched one baby book.
“We’ve got one book, Baby Love, but it’s yet to be opened,” Lauren tells Now To Love in an exclusive interview.
“This morning we’re like, ‘Are we meant to go and do classes or something?'” Simon laughs, before revealing they’re slowly collecting all the necessary baby paraphernalia.
“We’ve tested prams around the shop. We’ve looked at cots, so we’re starting to get a handle on it. We’ll be pretty relaxed,” the children’s entertainer tells us.
Earlier in the week, the couple shared the exciting news with Now To Love they are expecting a baby boy in January 2021.
And as their due date draws closer, Lauren, who is currently working on creating her own FHIT pregnancy workouts, admits she’s hesitant to lock in a strict birth plan due to the possibility of needing surgery at the same time she gives birth.
Simon and Lauren recently went public with their struggle to conceive, revealing it took two years to fall pregnant with Lauren discovering she had cysts on her ovaries.
With the government cancelling all elective surgery earlier in the year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lauren wasn’t able to have them removed.
But miraculously, she fell pregnant naturally. However due to her pre-existing condition, she is currently weighing up her birth options.
“We’ve got an appointment coming up with our obstetrician where we’ll have a conversation about it. But there is also the fact that I need to still have that surgery that I was meant to have,” the 34-year-old explains.
“It’s just whether they then decide that the best option is to have a caesarean, where they can do the surgery at the same time, or whether we go down the natural birth road and have the surgery later. We’re kind of still in conversations about it but there is the chance that I will need to have the surgery at the same time.”
“In terms of birth plan, I’m not really even sure what that means so it’s a clear indication that I haven’t got one,” Lauren laughs.
For now, the couple are swotting up on all the parenting tips they can get from Wiggles bandmate Lachy Gillespie, who welcomed twin daughters with his fiancee Dana Stephensen last month.
“Lachy’s great. He’s tired, as you can imagine. The girls are beautiful and they’re sleeping but just not sleeping at night,” Simon says.
