Bindi Irwin may have only been eight years old when her father Steve Irwin tragically passed away from a sting ray barb to the heart.

But the soon-to-be mother has always been determined to keep her father close to her heart – and this latest tribute is one of her most touching yet.

As Bindi and husband Chandler Powell countdown to welcome their first child in just a few short weeks, the couple have recreated an iconic maternity shoot of Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin.

In the 2003 throwback snap, a heavily pregnant Terri cradles her baby bump (who unbeknownst to the family, will be their son Robert Irwin) as proud dad Steve and daughter Bindi kiss her belly.

Deciding to relive the moment, Bindi copies her mum’s pose – exposing her bare pregnant belly as proud father-to-be Chandler plants a loving kiss on it.

Both Bindi and Chandler are also clad in the Irwin’s trademark khaki garb, just like Steve and Terri were in the original photo.

“Recreating a very special moment. Third trimester love. ❤️,” the 22-year-old captioned the special set of images.

Bindi and Chandler are due to welcome their daughter around late March/early April.

Bindi has kept her followers updated with her pregnancy by comparing her growing baby to native Australian animals.

Speaking of the moment she told her husband, who she married in March last year, that they were going to have a baby together, Bindi explained: “Discovering that I was going to become a mother will forever be a moment where time stood still. I took a test and ran into the kitchen where Chandler was making us tea. He didn’t hear me come in so I speechlessly watched him pouring the water into my most loved hedgehog mug.”

She continued: “I started crying tears of pure joy and told my sweetheart husband that my test was positive. We were beaming while our adorable puppy Piggy sat on our feet wondering what was going on.”
