Lacey Dunkin always new she wanted to be a mum. Her desire was so strong; when she was in her mid-20s her mother suggested she become a foster parent so she could experience parenting first-hand.
After completing multiple hours of training and passing a home study, Dunkin became a certified foster parent in 2011, explains Parents.com. She set up a red racing car bed donated by a friend, and waited. The Californian woman grew worried she wouldn’t be considered to foster children because of her single status.
However, late one night Dunkin received a phone call that would change her life forever.

The call was from a social worker asking if Dunkin would be able to accept four girls into emergency foster care. She said yes and within a few hours a 5-year-old, a pair of 2-year-old twins and a 1-year-old were running around her home in the early hours of the morning
Later that morning, Dunkin called into work and prepared to take the eldest girl to kindergarten. Dunkin recalled to Parents.com: “I was making her breakfast and she asked me if I had any daughters and if she could be my daughter, which broke my heart.”
Dunkin cared for the girls for nine months before they were returned to their biological mother. However, after about a month, their mother realised she could not provide proper care for her daughters and asked Dunkin if she would be willing to take the girls back, along with her fifth daughter, a baby girl who had been born the night Dunkin took in the four girls.
Dunkin agreed to take the five girls, but that’s not all. The girls’ mother was again pregnant with another girl. Within two years Dunkin had adopted all six girls – keeping their special family together.
Now Sophia, Natalie, Melanie, Kaylee, Lea, and Cecily live with 34-year-old Dunkin, who could not be happier with her modern family of gorgeous girls.
