A mother of a toddler has been shocked by the online backlash she received when her partner posted what he thought was an adorable picture of their child to an online parenting group.
The mother’s partner put up a cute shot of the 14-month-old onto a Reddit thread but the commentary that ensued was from other users calling the baby “fat” and taunts that she should be better taken care of.
“My fiancé posted a picture of our daughter on [the subreddit forum] Daddit yesterday and accidentally published it to Imgur,” the child’s mother posted on Reddit forum BeyondTheBump.
“Two people said she was unhealthily overweight and that we should take better care of her. My 14-month-old … who is perfectly healthy and thriving at a normal weight. Chunky babies run in both of our families.”
“It makes me so sad that at 1 year old she is already getting negative comments about her weight.”
Sad indeed.
Other Reddit users were quick to comfort the mother and offer their own stories of shocking trolling on their baby pictures that have ended up online.
One user, who goes by the name of The_Bravinator, said her infant was also harassed after her husband did the same thing.
“My husband posted a picture of our newborn on Daddit and someone replied that they hoped she died of SIDS,” wrote The_Bravinator. “It didn’t really bother me because it was just someone trying to get a rise out us with no real power or anything personal behind it, but it shows the quality of people these websites sometimes harbor…”
Another user, named TeamUnicornFart wrote: “Your daughter is beautiful. My girls are really small and have trouble gaining weight — I would be THRILLED if they looked like her in a couple months! Good grief she’s adorable.”
User AllDayDreamer added: “Cute! She is chunky, but jeez ya Imgur jerk babies come in all shapes and sizes!”
