Bump watchers are on high alert, and all indications point to 2019 is shaping up to be a big one for Sylvia Jeffries and her husband of two years, Peter Stefanovic.
The fact is, there’s only so long a celeb can cover up a pregnancy bump, and it looks like the 32-year-old former Today newsreader is finding hers more and more difficult to disguise.
The couple have yet to comment on the speculation surrounding their future as parents, but both posted New Years greetings on their Instagram accounts which show Sylvia making an effort to cover up her belly region.
Sylvia, wearing a white baggy t-shirt and back shorts moved in tight behind hubby, Peter trying her best to hide herself and covering her tummy with her left arm.
She captioned her image: “Up early to catch the first rays of 2019 Wishing you all a happy, healthy, smashing year.”
Peter also took to Instagram, writing: “Life is beautiful. Happy new year good people!” alongside an image of the loved-up couple on a beach, with Sylvia hiding her belly behind Peter’s knee.
Bump watchers have also noticed Sylvia’s choice of flowing, floaty fashion lately.
From the Melbourne Cup to the Arias and even brother-in-law Karl Stefanovic’s Mexican wedding, the popular journalist has been dodging anything clingy or form-fitting, opting for fashion choices that skim over her mid-region instead.
Adding more fuel to the rumours is the fact that Sylvia has announced that she will not return to Today in 2019.
In a statement to the Daily Telegraph last week, Sylvia confirmed the rumours that her time on the Today desk had come to an end.
“I’ve loved and embraced every minute of my Today Show chapter and feel humbled to have worked with so many passionate people – hosts, studio crew, cameramen and producers – who have become my great mates. There are few shows that are fortunate to have such an engaged audience, and I thank our viewers for inviting me into their homes day after day,” she said.
“I’m thrilled to sink my teeth into a brand new project. Opportunity often knocks when you least expect it and I’m ready to dive right in to what’s ahead of me.”
The couple has often spoken of their plans to begin their family.
In November, 2017, Sylvia told The Australian Women’s Weekly that she and Peter were keen to start their family and intend to raise their children in the same spirit with which they were raised – with lots of sun, sea and surf.
“We’d love a house full of kids.”
“Our hope is that down the track, we could have a house on the Gold Coast so that our kids can have the same experiences with their cousins that we both had as kids with our cousins,” she told The Weekly.
Peter, who has also announced his departure form the nine network in recent weeks, has also spoken about his desire to start a family with his beautiful wife.
“It’s something we both want to do,” the 36-year-old revealed to news.com.au’s podcast Balls Deep in July 2018.
Before adding: “I feel I’d be missing out if we didn’t have a kid, but we’re both pretty busy with our work at the moment.”

Could their recent announcements about both of their career changes be an indication that the time has come to start that family at last?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
