It’s often said that women morph into their mothers as they grow older, and Michelle Obama is no exception.
In honour of her mother Marian Robinson’s birthday, the former First Lady of the United States shared a sweet throwback photo of her mum – and the resemblance is uncanny.
Taking to Instagram, Mrs Obama captioned her photo: “Whenever I see this picture, and the look in my mother’s eyes, I wonder if she has any idea what’s coming in the decades ahead: Real love and real loss, children and grandchildren who’d keep her on her toes, a wild ride to places she’d only read about or seen on television.”
“But I also see something else in those eyes, something that guided me every day from the moment I was born—her unflappable belief that whatever came her way, she’d manage it. And because she’d manage, we all would, too. Happy birthday, Mom. I love you!”

Michelle’s Instagram followers posted their own birthday messages and also noted how much the former First Lady looked like her mother.
“So beautiful and you look so much like her. A good mother is a treasure in life,” one penned.
“Stunning and a real queen like michelle 😍😍😍,” posted another.
Another fan shared this sentimental message: “Wow. You look so much like her. How lovely. And so wonderful that you have had her in your life for so long to guide you and support you.”

Michelle, who is a mother herself to Sasha, 21 and Malia, 18, shed some light on parenting to another famous face, Duchess Meghan.
According to the Duchess of Sussex’s letter, the two discussed the Vogue September issue project “over a casual lunch of chicken tacos and my ever-burgeoning bump” and Mrs Obama revealed to the new royal parent what she’s learned from motherhood and her advice for the Sussex parents.
“When Malia and Sasha were newborns, Barack and I could lose hours just watching them sleep. We loved to listen to the little sounds they’d make — especially the way they cooed when they were deep into dreaming,” she said.
“Don’t get me wrong, early parenthood is exhausting. I’m sure you know a thing or two about that these days. But there is something so magical about having a baby in the house. Time expands and contracts; each moment holds its own little eternity.”
“I’m so excited for you and Harry to experience that, Meghan. Savour it all.”
