The couple, whose premature sons Levi and Tate recently arrived home after spending their first two months of life in hospital, copped flak for attending the celebrity boxing match.

The star-studded event made headlines after Bryce and Sam’s on-screen rivalry spilled into the real world, with the pair getting into a fiery scuffle that was recorded by shocked onlookers.

Melissa revealed online trolls have since made her feel “mum guilt” for taking a night off and going out with Bryce, saying people incorrectly assumed “we just lifted the boys out of NICU then went out”.

“I think every parent, whether they’re new to parenting, or they’ve been parenting for 20 or 30 years, every parent is going to have a night out and go and hang out with friends,” Bryce told Daily Mail.

“I guess one thing that’s always been told to us from family and friends is that you’ve got to also focus on your relationship with each other, and make sure that stays strong and basically that’s what we were doing.

Bryce faced backlash on social media for his confrontation with Sam, with footage showing the former MAFS grooms lunging at each other while yelling as Melissa and Bachelor in Paradise‘s Jamie Doran tried to break-up the fight.

“We’re allowed to have a night out to go and celebrate Christmas like anyone else is doing for work parties or with their friends,” he told his Instagram followers following the altercation.

“Having children has nothing to do with this situation. Are you a perfect parent?”

In happier news, Bryce and Melissa were finally able to bring Levi and Tate home hospital this week.

Melissa then explained what took place outside the boxing ring, saying she tried to de-escalate the conflict, which boiled over after months of on-air squabbling between Bryce and Sam.

“I put my hands up to prevent the situation from escalating and pushed Sam back, I could see that Bryce and Sam were going at each other. Jamie (Doran) was holding Bryce … that’s why I got in front of Bryce and you can see me pushing Sam back,” she said.

Bryce added: “He stood there, I went up to the rope, things happened (and he) basically put her in danger. You never do that to a woman, you never put her in between two men.”

“Every parent is going to have a night out.”

But in happier news, Bryce and Melissa were finally able to bring Levi and Tate home from the neonatal intensive care unit on Tuesday, following a long road to recovery after they were born 10 weeks early.

Posting to Instagram, the loved-up duo shared a slew of sweet pics of the twins on their first day at home.

“Welcome home my sweet little angels,” new mum Melissa captioned her photo.

Meanwhile dad Bryce shared three snaps of the family-of-four with the caption: “Home under the one roof 💙”
