Renowned Australian actress Madeleine West has revealed she suffered a miscarriage 11 years ago in a heartbreaking tribute to her “darling girl”, who she has promised to never forget.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Neighbours actress, known for her iconic role as Dee Bliss, shared the sonogram of her third child with then partner Shannon Bennett.
“I didn’t forget, my darling girl!…I never ever will. Today that little bundle of hope would have turned 11…had she not been called on to greater things before we had the chance to meet her,” Madeleine wrote.
The 39-year-old spoke about the devastating loss, while sharing a number of tiles of text, which show the tribute she penned to her unborn child.
Madeleine reiterated that the emotional letter isn’t just for her daughter, but for those everywhere who have “loved and lost”.
“I’ve reprinted the little tribute I wrote to her, to you, to all of us who have loved and lost, yet so rarely get to speak out loud the heartbreak of miscarriage,” she wrote.
“She is and will always be your baby, you her Mummy. And I will reprint these words to remind the world that she was here, on this day every year, for the rest of our lives…”
Within the tribute written by Madeleine, the mother of six speaks of the “silent trimester”, a hopeful time when many miscarriages occur.
“Just 4 weeks shy of the magical 14 week mark when pregnancies and the prospect of the child are suddenly allowed to be considered real.
“That little miracle slipped quietly away while still within the limbo of the ‘silent trimester’, when you are advised not to tell anyone ‘just in case’.”
Madeleine is a doting mum to six children, Phoenix, Hendrix, Xascha, Xanthe and twins, Xalia and Margaux, all of whom she shares with ex-partner and chef Shannon.
