He’s used to sitting back and watching TV for a living, but in less than nine month’s time Gogglebox star Adam Densten will have an exciting reason to get off that sofa after announcing his wife Rachel is expecting a baby!
Talking to Woman’s Day, the 31-year-old funnyman reveals the announcement was the cherry on top of a jam-packed year.
“It’s been a big year for us, we’ve got married, bought a house and fallen pregnant, all in one year,” he says.
“We’ve probably ticked off too many milestones,” he laughs, adding, “but it’s something we’ve always hoped for.”
Rachel, 30, who’s around 16 weeks pregnant, says the magic happened during a period when the pair were figuring out when the right time would be to start trying!
“We were in lockdown, there wasn’t much else to do, and we thought, ‘Why not, let’s get started,’ so it worked out well,” she says.
“It’s been a bit of a blessing in disguise, being locked up. I’ve just been in bed and in my trackpants.
“It’s nice not having to get dressed up and face the world every day. It’s been pretty good so far.”
That sense of ease is mostly down to Adam.
“He’s been great, he’s actually serving as my personal chef at the moment,” she says.
“I mean, I’m putting in the hard yards, and so he’s putting in the hard yards, which is very fair, I think.”
“What the wife wants, the wife gets,” Adam jokes.
The couple – who plan on keeping both the baby’s gender and name a surprise – say their families were “stunned into absolute silence” when they delivered the news.
But Adam reveals his Gogglebox co-star and “other half”, Symon Lovett, wasn’t so discreet.
“He tackled me and screamed in my face, ‘We’re going to be parents!'” Adam laughs. “He’s already dictated that he’s the godfather too.”
But it sounds like Symon may have some other Gogglebox family competition.
“Matty Fahd, Matt Dalton and Isabelle [Silbery] all sent me texts straight away. I told them, ‘Any parent tips welcome,'” Adam says.
“It’s great because all three of them have kids that cover all age groups.
“I’ve got Matty Fahd, who is a new dad, Isabelle who has a kid around 10, and then Matt Dalton, whose kids are in their 20s, so I should be covered.”
While he’s well-versed in everything to do with reality TV, Adam admits he’s going to have to get his head around children’s programming – however there’s one show he can’t wait to watch with their newborn.
“I know there are new episodes of Bluey out at the moment, but I’m intentionally avoiding them because I’d like to watch them as a new dad.
“I’m going to be one of those dads standing around the barbecue with a beer who asks the boys, ‘Hey, have you seen the new Bluey?'” he laughs.
“I know Bingo is also meant to be the best dad ever. He’s super creative and fun, so if I could be any dad in the world, it sounds like I’d want to be Bingo,” he adds.
While Adam will “never say never” to his newborn making an appearance on Gogglebox, he’s not so sure about the bub becoming a full-time cast member just yet.
“We’ve heard that kids just copy you, so maybe I need to get up off the couch and be a little bit more active, or perhaps they’ll end up on the couch,” he says.
“I’m sure my parents didn’t expect me to watch TV for a living but you’ve just got to roll with the punches.
“As long as we’re encouraging, supportive and fun as parents – hopefully all will be OK.”
