Fiona Falkiner has revealed her son Hunter ended up in hospital after choking on his own vomit, describing it as the “most terrifying” situation she’s been put through as a mother.
The 39-year-old, who shares Hunter with wife Hayley Willis, said his heath deteriorated after battling croup and an ear infection last week.
“One of the most terrifying moments in our parenthood journey to date… We were hopeful little H would be on the mend,” Fiona shared on Instagram on Friday.
“Instead his cough turned into another virus and as we were in our Melbourne hotel room a coughing fit saw him vomit choke and go limp for what seemed like an eternity.
“Thankfully we were able to clear his airways and get him conscious again before paramedics arrived.”
Fiona and Hayley, who are currently expecting their second child together, then spent the night with one-year-old Hunter at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
“Instead of the long awaited trip to see my beautiful Mum for the first time in months, we will be resting before going back home to Sydney tomorrow,” Fiona shared.
“My heart hurts for so many reasons, for H and how sick he is, and for not being able to see my beautiful Mum who continues to deteriorate from Alzheimer’s.”
“It’s been one hell of a week, I’m grateful we are okay and just hope we can finally get our little man well again.”
The heartbreaking situation comes two months after Fiona and Hayley announced they were expecting baby number two.
Fiona carried Hunter with the help of IVF, while Hayley is pregnant this time around with their second son, who is due in August this year.
“My beautiful wife to be @hayley__willis has been so incredible, having had covid, moved house, all the things in the first trimester but she is just amazing and took it all in her stride!” Fiona announced in March.
“Hunter can’t wait to meet his baby brother!!!! Life does not get much better than this! I am feeling very blessed with a very full heart.”
The model proposed to Hayley back in 2019 and haven’t managed to tie the knot yet, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the birth of their son Hunter in 2021.
The former Biggest Loser host has long been open about the struggles she and Hayley faced with their “traumatic” IVF battle as they fought to become parents.
“Obviously you have your partner but it can actually feel like a really lonely process,” Fiona told The Daily Telegraph in 2020.
“It is you and your body against all odds. Women don’t really talk about it until after the fact. It can be really quite traumatic.”
