hen Danny and Sonia were planning the meal for their instant restaurant in My Kitchen Rules, they were told they couldn’t catch their own mudcrabs – they would have to buy them. It was a shock for the siblings, who grew up fishing and hunting in North Queensland.
“I remember seeing Danny’s head spin a bit,” Sonia tells TV WEEK with a laugh. “He was like, ‘Oh no, this is sacrilege paying this much for crab!’”
“I catch and eat it for free,” Danny says, “and you’ve got these people paying $20 a kilo for a mudcrab!”
As for the garlic prawns that the duo serve up as part of their main course, they hold a special meaning for Sonia. When her father was near the end of his life, she cooked garlic prawns for him, not realising it would be the last meal they would eat together. But she didn’t want to talk about her father too much on the show.
“I didn’t want any kind of emotional vote,” she explains. “And I just didn’t want to talk too much because I knew I’d fall apart, to be honest.”
For Sonia, going on My Kitchen Rulesis a long-held dream – and it could make another one of her dreams come true. She says if she won the show, she would use the prize money to help new mums and dads.
“I would love to be able to set my kitchen up to do cooking classes for young parents, to be able to take that knowledge home with them to create fresh meals to nourish their own kids,” she says.
“When I was going through all my hard times, the one thing I’m so grateful for was growing up with that knowledge of food and cooking.
“I would love to be able to do that for young families.”
It is supposed to be the birthday party to end all birthday parties, designed to re-establish Prince Harry and Meghan as two of the world’s key power players – and a chance to show their celebrity neighbours what they’re made of.
But at the time of going to press, Woman’s Day learns that rather than go all out with a million-dollar bash, Prince Harry, who turned 40 on September 15, has told his wife Meghan, 43, to scale back the plans to an intimate gathering of close friends at their $20 million Californian mansion.
“For months leading up to Harry’s birthday, Montecito was buzzing with party preparations and Meghan told pals they want to have a huge proper Hollywood party for his 40th. Clearly this was important to her. She’s keen to showcase her ‘happy husband’ and their perfect star-studded glam life in California,” a showbiz insider tells.
PRINCE HARRY THE PARTY-POOPER
“However just a few weeks ago, all party talk died off and the early enthusiasm had completely fizzled out, most likely after Harry found out his old pals from the UK might not attend.
“Meanwhile Meghan’s apparently struggling to get A-listers there! With just a few days to go, she’d only got a confirmed RSVP from Ellen and Portia. So who knows what’s going to happen in Sussex county on the big day, but the original plan was to have a garden party at the house with full catering, marquees, a string quartet and a mini concert with Chris Martin on the mic.”
Adding to the drama, Harry’s royal cousins were remaining on the fence about whether they intended to fly over.
“Harry did invite Beatrice and Eugenie and even asked his father if he’d like to give a Zoom speech, but Harry’s getting the message loud and clear – unless it’s something to do with Archie and Lilibet, the royals aren’t so interested. It’s the same with Posh and Becks, who are now key members of Team Wales. It’s highly unlikely they’d consider rocking the boat just to attend Harry’s birthday party.”
SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!
According to our sources, the guest list isn’t the only thing causing headaches. Meghan’s desire to “put on a good show” is coming with a hefty price tag – something she is hoping Harry’s soon-to-be-acquired family inheritance – rumoured to be the monster sum of $16 million as part of the Queen Mother’s secretive will – could bankroll!
“Harry was shocked when he saw how much money she wanted to blow on his big bash, but Meghan insisted he deserved it, thanks to his inheritance.
“With everything they’ve been through in the last few years Meghan just assumed Harry wouldn’t mind spending a chunk of that money to properly celebrate his milestone, and even planned a lavish boys’ getaway with his friends in the mountains,” spills the insider.
“But Harry told her in no uncertain terms not to waste the money. He wants to put the inheritance away for their future, especially for Archie [five] and Lili [three]. For Harry the 40th is just another reminder of the friends and family he’s lost over the last few years and he just wants to spend his big day with her and the kids.”
As the prince tells People magazine, “The best gift I’ve ever been given is, without doubt, my kids… [I] love being their dad.”
For an open, honest guy, Justin is starting to show some pretty sneaky behaviour. He’s making excuses to get away from his friends, disappearing without explanation and coming up with see-through explanations when asked what he’s up to… and for Theo, that’s enough to get him worried.
He knows Justin (James Stewart) and his aunt Leah (Ada Nicodemou) have been going through a rough patch recently, but could it be that another woman is the reason?
And could that woman be Claudia (Rachael Carpani) who crashed – literally – into the Bay when her car’s brakes failed and has been hanging around the garage ever since?
When Justin lies about seeing Claudia, despite Theo (Matt Evans) seeing the pair together himself, his worries grow. Justin says it’s nothing to be concerned about… and nothing Leah needs to know!
“Justin feels terrible [about lying], but it makes him stick to his plan even harder,” James, 49, tells TV WEEK.
But while Justin might think he’s just helping someone in need, Claudia could have other plans, showing up at the garage again with yet another problem she wants him to solve.
Will Justin’s good intentions land him in the worst kind of trouble he can imagine?
And when Leah finds Claudia’s cardigan at the garage, is there anything he can say that will convince her he’s the same faithful husband he always swore he’d be?
“Leah has no idea what Justin is doing behind her back, but she doesn’t like or trust Claudia,” Ada, 47, tells TV WEEK.

Losing a patient is never easy for a doctor. But when that doctor is Bree and the patient is her best friend Felicity, it’s enough to send her spiralling.
Remi (Adam Rowland) knows something is very wrong when he comes home to find Bree (Juliet Godwin) cleaning her already spotless house after yet another row with nurse Dana (Ally Harris). And when he offers to help, she explodes.
He knows she’s doing it tough, he says, but she has to move on. And if she can’t do it by herself, then maybe it’s time she gets the professional help she so clearly needs.
It’s all said with love, but Bree’s not in the right space to hear good advice.
“Bree doesn’t want to get help because she’s scared her counsellor will have to report her to the hospital,” Juliet explains to TV WEEK.
Home And Away airs Monday to Thursday, 7pm, Channel Seven
A blow-up with their builder and snubs from their fellow Blockheads leave Maddy and Charlotte feeling isolated and alone this week on The Block.
“It was sad that our initial experience with some of the contestants wasn’t overly positive,” Maddy, 25, tells TV WEEK. “Everyone else had already formed cliques so it was hard to break into those relationships. Upon reflecting on it, I actually felt very lonely.”
It’s Kitchen Week, and it is shaping up to be a horrible one for the Sydney sisters as they attempt to complete the heart of the home – arguably the room that sells houses.
Not only is Maddy snubbed by the other contestants on her 25th birthday, with no-one acknowledging her special day, but they also butt heads with their builder, Zac, who leaves Charlotte in tears after accusing her of going over his head when making decisions.
“I know tradies can be a little rough around the edges,” Charlotte, 22, says. “But it was a little bit too rough for us. We’re not princesses, we were just asking for a bit of human decency.”
Leaving the girls high and dry, Zac storms off site in a rage, so they ask Fans vs Favourites contestant and seasoned carpenter Kyal, 38 − who is back on site with wife and season 8 The Block partner Kara, 37, for a challenge − if he would help them complete the kitchen.
This move only isolates them further from their fellow contestants, who believe this will give them an unfair advantage in the competition.
“We weren’t aware anyone was threatened by us asking the question,” Maddy says. “We were desperate for a builder, so we didn’t think much of it.”
The Block airs at 7.30pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday’s at 7pm on the Nine Network.
Best-selling author of The Thursday Murder Club, Richard Osman is putting aside his famous series to embark on a new adventure, We Solve Murders.
The new murder mystery series, which is equally as warm and funny as his previous, follows private security officer Amy Wheeler as she’s falsely accused of a string of murders and goes on the run with famous novelist Rosie D’Antonio.
Here Woman’s Day brings you an exclusive first chapter of We Solve Murders…
YOUR FIRST CHAPTER EXCLUSIVE
It had finally happened. Andrew Fairbanks had always known he would be famous one day. And that day – a quiet, sunny Tuesday in early August – had, at last, arrived.
The years of Instagram fitness videos had given him a following, sure, but nothing like this. This was insane.
There had been an on-off relationship with a minor pop singer, which had seen his picture in the papers from time to time. But not on the front pages like today.
The notoriety Andrew Fairbanks had chased for so long was finally his. His name on lips around the world. Trending on social media. That selfie on the yacht was everywhere. Andrew, shirtless and tanned, winking into the camera, the warm sun winking along behind him. His bottle of Krusher energy drink raised in a happy toast.
And the comments beneath the photo! The heart emojis, the fire emojis, the lust. Everything Andrew had ever dreamed of.
Some of the other comments might have dampened his spirits a little, however. “Gone too soon,” “So fit, RIP,” “So haunting to see that photo when you knew what was about to happen…” – but you couldn’t argue with the volume. Impressive traffic. In the offices of the Love Island production team, his photograph was passed around, and there were discussions about how perfect he might have been if only, well, you know.
Yes, finally, everybody knew Andrew Fairbanks. Or, as he was now more commonly known, “Tragic Instagram influencer, Andrew Fairbanks.”
So it wasn’t all upside. And, in fact, even that slim upside is beginning to dim. It is Wednesday afternoon by now, and his name is already beginning to slip down the rankings. Other things are happening in the world. A baseball star has driven his pick-up into his ex-wife’s swimming pool. A beauty vlogger has said something inappropriate about Taylor Swift. The conversation, like the tide, is turning.
Andrew Fairbanks had been found dead: shot in the head, tied to a rope and thrown from a yacht bobbing about in the Atlantic. There was no one else on the yacht, and no sign that anyone had ever been there, with the exception of a leather bag containing nearly one million dollars.
But none of this gives you the right to be famous more than a day or so. One day, perhaps, there might be a podcast about the case or, better still, a Netflix true-crime documentary, but, for now, Andrew’s limelight is turning to dusk.
Soon Andrew Fairbanks will be just a photograph, holding a purple energy drink in front of a blue sea, a corpse in a South Carolina mortuary, and the odd, “Remember that guy who died on that yacht with all that money?”
Who killed him? Who knows? Someone or other, certainly, and social media has a lot of opinions on it. Why did they kill him? No idea – someone must have had their reasons, mustn’t they? Jealous partner? Instagram fitness rival? Could be all sorts of explanations. Can you believe what this vlogger has said about Taylor Swift?
Just for the one day, though, what a ride it had been. If Andrew had still been alive, he would have been looking for a full-time manager. Get me a few more deals, protein bars, teeth-whitening clinics, perhaps I could launch my own vodka?
Yes, just for a day, everybody had wanted a piece of Andrew Fairbanks. Although, after the sharks had finished with him, there weren’t that many pieces left.
A volatile gunman bent on revenge hits Holly and holds other residents hostage in Neighbours this week.
Since she’s returned to Erinsborough after the trauma of what happened with unhinged businessman Heath (Ethan Panizza) in the desert, Holly (Lucinda Armstrong Hall) has been burning through the money she stole from him after pushing him into a crocodile-infested river in self-defence.
Among the lavish purchases are a wedding dress for her friend Mackenzie (Georgie Stone), and a dream car for herself. And while her father Karl (Alan Fletcher) thinks the spending is just a response to the trauma, Wendy (Candice Leask) is more suspicious.
“Holly is too busy spending and enjoying herself to worry too much about people noticing,” Lucinda tells TV WEEK. “She doesn’t give it too much thought – until people begin to ask questions and she has to scramble to explain herself.”
When Holly receives harassing text messages demanding Heath’s money back, she works out that they’re coming from his former bodyguard Justin (Richard Sutherland) and starts to panic – the cash she took is nearly all gone, and she knows full well how dangerous he can be.
“Holly knows Justin is capable of hurting or killing her family and friends to get what he wants,” Lucinda says.
Holly’s mum Susan (Jackie Woodburne) accompanies Holly to The Waterhole – where Paul (Stefan Dennis) and Felix (James Beaumont) are already there – intending to broach the subject of her spending.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Justin appears. Brandishing a gun, he whacks Holly and holds everyone inside at gunpoint for leverage. Will Holly survive Justin’s quest for revenge, or will a loved one step in to save her and, in doing so, pay the ultimate price?
Neighbours airs Monday to Thursday at 4pm on 10 and 6.30pm on 10Peach.
Appearing on the hit series The Amazing Race 2024: Celebrity Edition, Lily Brown says everyone should pack a muscly boyfriend like her partner Jett Kenny, 30, to lug around your makeup and skincare.
The 26-year-old influencer and her ironman partner, who is also the son of swimmer Lisa Curry and canoeist Grant Kelly, are travelling the world on the hit Ten show with other famous Aussies while raising money for the charity endED in the process.
“I think Mum was pretty nervous that there might be some different foods I might have to consume throughout the process of the show,” Jett says. “She knows I’m not very good with food.”
Before they began their globe-trot, mum Lisa suggested to the pair that they take some of Jett’s sister Jaimi’s ashes along in their backpack as a touching way to honour her memory – something Lisa has done since Jaimi’s passing in 2020, leaving her ashes in some of her favourite places around the world, including Mt Coolum in Queensland, Mt Kosciuszko, Paris, San Diego and Canada.
” It was like she was our guardian angel,” Lily says, while Jett adds, “Having her in our backpacks meant she went to a few more places she’s never been before.”
GLOBAL ADVENTURES
Travelling across Argentina, South Africa, Namibia and Thailand, Lily and Jett made fast friends with the other contestants.
“Whoever selected the cast this year did such a great job, we’ve become a close family,” Jett explains. “We all came from different walks of life, and it worked out so well.”
Lily adds that they got really close with the Matildas teammates Chloe Logarzo and Emily Gielnik, along with Pete Helliar and his wife Bridget, and country singers Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley.
Filming from sunrise to sunset for around a month, it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
“There were definitely moments when I struggled to get my anxiety under control,” Lily shares.
“This was my first time doing anything on TV, so I kept reminding myself that this is the opportunity of a lifetime,” she says.
In early August, the pair made headlines after Jett joked on social media that he was going to propose to Lily at the top of a mountain in Hawaii but called it off due to them both being too hungover to complete the hike! IT was taken seriously by the media.
“We’re not engaged and there was no ring,” Jett laughs.
A NEW JOURNEY
Jett and Lily agree that marriage is on the cards in the future, after they’ve bought their first house together.
“Lily doesn’t know when the proposal is going to come,” Jett says.
“It could come at the top of a mountain when she’s hungover, or the bottom of one when she’s not… I’ll keep her on her toes.”
When asked what their ideal wedding looks like, the pair tell Woman’s Day it will aesthetically resemble the ceremony held for Sansa Stark and Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones.
With The Amazing Race now well and truly conquered, Lily and Jett says they would love to appear on Gogglebox or Travel Guides.
“I’m very opinionated, so I would probably get in a lot of trouble, but it could make good TV,” Jett admits.
Now infected with the travel bug, the couple share that they’ll be embarking on a trip to Japan with Lily’s parents in the coming months and are planning a month-long jaunt to Europe next year.
“We’d love to go to Turkey, it’s somewhere we haven’t been,” Lily shares.
“Not to get a hair transplant, but because it’s a cool place,” Jett adds.
